A NEW Summer Camp Opens in Fayette County
Camp Drift-A-Bit, is a project of the New River Gorge Learning Co-op
It is the mission of Camp Drift-A-Bit to empower young Southern West Virginians to explore and care for their natural environment through outdoor adventure, community service, and environmental stewardship. We encourage children to embrace their natural curiosity to inspire confidence in their ability to learn. We create opportunities for children to become:
Curious
by looking deeply at natural wonders, both big and small, that surround us each day in our own backyard.
Courageous
by empowering each child to challenge their perceived comfort zone, through adventure and activities facilitated in an emotionally and physically safe environment.
Confident
by practicing skills to become effective team players and leaders.
Camp Drift-A-Bit will offer 3 camp sessions:
High Adventure Session 1; Ages 9-14 (6/18/2018 - 6/22/2018)

Youngchae's Letter:
Dear host family, Hi I am Youngchae. I am sorry to say hello like this and not face to face but I hope we can meet soon and say hello. I think I am having a decent life. I have a good time with my friends, and a good time with my family. I really want to spend my next year in America because first of all I want to try out new things like staying without my family and staying with other households.I want to improve my English so that I can be more fluent at it of course and spend some years in America and adapt to the environment so that I can spend my future days and probably work there. At school, I always have a good time with my friends and spend happy days. I like read, mostly non-fictions. My favorite book was the whole series of 'a series of unfortunate events' which is really a good read and I like to read before I sleep. I also do enjoy programming things with my computer. Which I am quite good at I could say but I am a little slow typer which is really ironic and is one of the things i want to fix in america. I've been to Australia once for a year, but with my family which is why some people said I had a bush accent, but I'm pretty sure I don't have them now because I watch a lot of american movies...
(Learn More).
Annabel's Letter:
Dear Host Family, first of all, I want to thank you for taking time to read my letter in which I would like to tell you something about myself, my family, my friends and my daily life. My name is Annabel Charlotte, I am 16 years old and I live in a flat in a big City in Germany. My parents got divorced, when I was 10 years old but that is no problem for me because I visit my mother every other weekend where we do a lot of great things together like cooking, talking and traveling to cities... Gritty Chix Mud Run
June 23, 2018
Join Gritty Chix the largest mud run in West Virginia!
Have fun and test your own limits in the time and space you're comfortable with while gettin' as Gritty as you wanna be on an untimed 5k Tenacious Trail or 1 Moxie Mile fun run and mud obstacle course designed for excitement, fun, and laughter. Walk, sprint, skip, jog or dance through trails, over walls, through tubes, and mud pits with names like Commando Crawl, Over-Under Logs, Slickey Slide, and more! Wear anything you feel comfortable in. A bikini, costume, overalls, prom dress... anything, but it will get dirty! Chix is in the name, but we don't exclude the guys that respect our grit - those guys are man enough to run with Gritty Chix! Open to ages 10 and up; under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
TRAILS
You choose - sweat it out on the Tenacious 5k Trail or don't sweat it on the Moxie Mile. Both trails go through the main mud obstacle course with a couple additional mud-holes on the 5k. Obstacles have varying degrees of difficulty, but all obstacles are manageable. Some upper body strength is helpful and you have the option to bypass any obstacle you're not comfortable tackling. Go for it before going around it - try to complete each one! It's all about excitement, laughter, and camaraderie so we encourage lending a helping hand to all Gritty Chix throughout the course. Water stations and first aid are available along the trails and at the finish line.
