June Parent Tip of the Month

Let’s Play! 3 Fun Summer Activities

Now that the weather is beautiful, sunny, and warm, it’s a great time to enjoy and explore the outdoors. Here are a few fun ideas to try with your children as summertime approaches. Be sure to stay safe and hydrated while playing outside, and don’t forget to put on some sunscreen!

Water Table - What you’ll need: plastic bin, toys, cups, plastic spoons, or even cut-up pool noodles

Step 1

Fill up a plastic bin with water, put in some tools and toys, and let them splash around! This activity allows children to explore different textures and objects in the water, like pouring water out of cups, using a spoon to move the water and toys, etc.

Splatter Paint Art - What you’ll need: craft paper, washable paint, paint brushes, a cupcake tin (to separate the paint), and outdoor space

Step 1

Squirt the paint into the different tins and dilute with water.

Step 2

Tape the craft paper to a fence or wall. Make the paper area big enough to protect the area from paint. Tip: Test the paint first to see if it will be easy to wash away.

Step 3

Give the children the paintbrushes and let them splatter and splash that paint around!

Racket Ball - What you’ll need: pool noodles, PVC pipe (or wood dowel, yard stakes, anything to stick in the ground), and a ball

Step 1

Place pipe or wood dowels into the ground in two places. Make them as far apart or as close together as you would like. They need to stick up about 4 inches out of the ground.

Step 2

Add the pool noodles over them. The pipe or dowel should fit right into the hole in the middle of the pool noodle.

Step 3

Keep adding them to your yard in as many places as you would like. You can have just a couple or create a full-fledged obstacle course!

And if you need something simple, quick, and easy, give the children a bucket of water and paintbrushes and let them “paint” the sidewalk! This art will quickly disappear as the sun dries it out, so clean-up is a breeze!
