A Letter From The Executive Director

Dear Friends of Saint Vincent’s Day Home,

As we wrap up the month of June, I find myself reflecting with immense pride on all that has unfolded at the Day Home—moments of celebration, growth, and meaningful connection that speak to the heart of our mission.

This month was full of milestones. We celebrated the resilience and joy of our students as they explored themes of love, identity, and belonging during Pride Month. We honored Juneteenth with powerful cultural experiences that reminded us of the importance of equity and community. And, of course, we marked the bittersweet transition of our kindergartners as they graduated and prepared to take their next steps into first grade—each child a bright light ready to shine in new ways.

I’m also thrilled to share that our toddler playground is now complete! This vibrant, thoughtfully designed space is a beautiful investment in our youngest learners, giving them a safe, inspiring place to grow through play. It’s just one of many exciting improvements underway, and we’re deeply grateful to all the partners who help bring these projects to life.

Looking ahead, our partnership with Oakland Promise opens the door for families to begin building college savings early, reinforcing our belief that every child deserves a strong start and a hopeful future. It’s just one more way we’re working together to nurture lifelong learners and build lasting impact beyond our classroom walls.

Thank you for being part of our community. Your ongoing support ensures that our children and families continue to thrive—in June and every month of the year.

With deep gratitude,

Alexandra Hilario

Executive Director

June Day Home Highlights

June was a time of reflection, pride, and celebration at the Day Home. Our children created heartfelt Father’s Day crafts, celebrated Pride Month by embracing love, inclusion, and belonging, and learned about the significance of Juneteenth through stories, music, and hands-on activities that honored African American history and culture. We ended the month with a joyful kindergarten graduation ceremony, recognizing each child’s hard work and growth as they prepared to take their next big step into first grade. These special moments reflected the growth, learning, and joy that filled our classrooms.

Meet Trivia

Family Services Associate

Hi, my name is Trivia, and I’m proud to serve in the Family Services Department here at Saint Vincent’s Day Home. I’ve been part of the team for three months, and what inspired me to take on this role was the opportunity to be the warm, welcoming face that families and children see when they walk through our doors.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is building strong, meaningful relationships with the families we serve. As the first point of contact throughout the day, I assist with a wide range of needs—from enrollment and daily questions to keeping families informed about all the latest happenings at the Day Home. Every day, I bring my bubbly personality, genuine smile, and positive energy to create a welcoming environment for everyone who enters our school.

Outside of work, I love being a mother and a wife and coming home to a house full of love. A fun fact about me: I’m very creative and love planning special moments!

Celebrating Our Kindergarten Graduates

Our kindergarten graduation was a heartwarming celebration shared with parents, families, and loved ones. Together, we honored the growth and accomplishments of our young graduates as they prepared to take their next big step into first grade. The children lit up the stage with joyful songs and dances before receiving their diplomas, surrounded by cheers, hugs, and colorful leis. It was a meaningful event filled with pride, laughter, and community. We’re so proud of our graduates and thankful to the families who joined us to mark this special milestone.

Alumni Spotlight

Allen Rosby attended Saint Vincent’s Day Home from ages 2 to 5. During his time at the Day Home, he loved being around his peers, playing on the yard, and sharing meals during family-style dining — moments that helped shape his early childhood experience. He also had a deep appreciation for the warmth and care of the SVDH staff, who made a lasting impact.

Allen’s mother fondly recalls how comforting it was to know he was in a safe, supportive environment every day: “It made me feel at ease knowing my child was in good hands.”

Allen is now graduating from Oakland Technical High School and has been accepted to Cal State East Bay. We’re proud to celebrate his accomplishments and excited to see what lies ahead for this bright Day Home alum!

Kaitlin Madrigal attended Saint Vincent’s Day Home as a young child, where she formed some of her earliest memories surrounded by caring teachers, joyful play, and a strong sense of community. Her time at the Day Home helped lay a foundation of confidence and connection that she carried with her through the years.

Now a proud graduate of Emery High School, Kaitlin continues to make her family and the Day Home community proud. We’re honored to celebrate this milestone and the bright future ahead for this remarkable alum.

Congratulations, Kaitlin! Your Day Home family is cheering you on every step of the way.

Juneteenth: A Celebration of Culture and Community

We honored Juneteenth at Saint Vincent’s Day Home with a joyful celebration of rhythm, culture, and community. The festivities began at the Beth Eden Block Party and continued at the Day Home with a day full of engaging experiences for our children. Highlights included a dynamic drumming performance by DRUMMM Rhythmic Events, an exciting stilt show from Prescott Circus, and free books generously provided by Marcus Books—the oldest Black-owned independent bookstore in the country. Thank you to all who helped make this celebration both meaningful and memorable.

Celebrating Pride Month at the Day Home

This Pride Month, our little learners celebrated what makes each of them unique through colorful art and creative expression. At Saint Vincent’s Day Home, we explored themes of inclusion, self-expression, and the beauty of diversity in age-appropriate and joyful ways. Children were encouraged to be proud of who they are and to appreciate what makes each person special—a reflection of the inclusive values we nurture every day in our classrooms.

The Parent Toolkit: Supporting Children Through Change

June has been a meaningful month at Saint Vincent’s Day Home, marked by growth, reflection, and transition. As students prepare to move into new classrooms and routines, teachers are thoughtfully guiding them through these changes in supportive and engaging ways. Many teachers, such as the Butterflies and Caterpillars, are organizing small group visits to help children explore their upcoming classrooms, fostering familiarity with the new environment and connection with their new teachers. The Hummingbirds teachers created a touching slideshow, allowing students to reflect on their accomplishments and celebrate the joy and growth they’ve experienced throughout the year. Teachers such as the Dinosaur team are not only supporting children but also families by sending home welcome letters to initiate communication and build strong partnerships between home and school. Change can be exciting and hard! With preparation, patience, and support, it can be a time of growth, resilience, and joy.

Creating Beautiful Spaces: Toddler Playground

We’re thrilled to announce that our toddler playground renovation is officially complete! The new space was thoughtfully designed with our youngest learners in mind—offering a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can explore, climb, and play with confidence.

From soft surfacing to age-appropriate structures, every detail was carefully planned to support movement, curiosity, and joyful outdoor experiences. The playground was designed by CSS Landscape Architects and built by BIC Construction Inc., and we’re so grateful for their partnership in bringing this vibrant space to life.
