• Prep Your Pet: If you and your pet have been inseparable till now, it is time to get some space! Even if you have nowhere to go, begin practicing leaving the house without your pet for short periods of time. We suggest to gradually increase the amounts of time until it is back to a normal schedule.

• Provide Mental Stimulation: While you are away, help keep your pets mind stimulated with puzzle toys and treats. Playing calming music in room may also help your pet. If your pet enjoys a kennel, use that as a safe space during your absences. If your pet is a puppy or a dog that is brand new to your house, crate training is definitely recommended to start things off on the right foot.

• Remain Calm: Sometimes, we unknowingly worsen our pet’s anxiety. If you’re nervous about leaving your pet, and say goodbye multiple times while reassuring them that you’ll be back soon, your pet will pick up on your fear and also be fearful. We suggest saying one casual, calm and brief goodbye before heading out the door and remember to do the same during your return. Your pet will still be happy to see you, but your body language and voice should show them that you leaving was "no big deal"
