Data Reflection

by Jessica Muhlenkamp, OCPC

Data is important in prevention; so important that “Planning & Evaluation” is Prevention Competency #1! Collecting, organizing, and interpreting different types of data (quantitative, qualitative, surveys, key informant interviews, focus groups, environmental scans, etc.) are parts of this competency and can help us better understand our schools and communities.

Working with schools as part of Project AWARE, we’ve been able to help schools dig deeper into their data to highlight their work. Not only do we have statewide data showing the strides we’ve made across the state, but we’ve also been able to have different schools showcase their work through “brag sheets". Each school used different types of data to showcase their work including:

OHYES! Survey

ODEW Attendance Dashboard

School-wide Climate Surveys via software like Panorama or Abre

Exit Tickets from Universal Prevention Screening/Education

Student Referrals to SAP

And More!

The type of progress you’re trying to demonstrate will change the kind of data you want to use. Whether you’re showing student achievement, student attendance or prevention outcomes, you’ll need data to illustrate your point. Work with your school partners, your community partners, and tap into state resources to find data that illustrates the growth that’s happening at your school.

Recent Project AWARE Brag Sheets!

We are so proud of the amazing Student Assistance Programs (SAP) and Behavioral Health and Wellness Coordinators (BHWC) in Ohio!

Project AWARE aims to increase mental health awareness and mental health access in schools. Our Ohio Project AWARE program installs a Behavioral Health and Wellness Coordinator in a school to ensure a functioning Student Assistance Program, expansion of tiered services through community collaboration, and a viable staff wellness plan. Click on one of the brag sheets below to see our progress!

The above brag sheets will also be added to our website this week.
