Philmont Scout Ranch Fires
At this time, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all backcountry treks that were scheduled to take place in the Philmont backcountry from June 8 – July 14, 2018. We hope that back country treks may resume after July 14, 2018 with altered itineraries, assuming the back country is safe and infrastructure is restored.
Additionally, programs scheduled to take place at Philmont Training Center will also be canceled through June 23, 2018. The Philmont Training Center expects to welcome back participants beginning with Philmont Family Adventure on June 24, 2018.

For full program announcement and updated information, please click below.

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national High Adventure Base. It covers 140,177 acres of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico.

Philmont Scout Ranch operates 35 staffed camps and 55 trail camps. Philmont has high mountains with rough terrain and elevations that range from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Fareway Partner Cards
Thank you for volunteering your time and talents to mentor our youth. Your commitment to community is appreciated.

Fareway and Scouting have many similarities including putting family first, working hard and being thrifty.

These similarities made the “Partner Card” a possibility. As a preferred partner of Mid-Iowa Council, we encourage you to shop Fareway for snacks, party supplies, food for ceremonies, and your adventurous camp outs.

Our organizations are committed to helping you
make Scouting more impactful for our youth.

Each Fareway store has different ways they can help your Scouting unit. Fareway encourages units to reach out to your local stores to discuss discounts, product donations, or other ways Fareway might be able to help your program.

Thank you to all our volunteers and Fareway for making a difference.

Pick your cards up at the Maytag Scout Center or at your next District meeting!

The commissioner is a friend of the unit. Of all their roles, this one is the most important. It springs from the attitude, "I care, I am here to help, what can I do for you?" Caring is the ingredient that makes commissioner service successful. He or she is an advocate of unit needs. MORE...

BSA SAFETY MOMENT

SUN SAFETY
Scouting provides a wealth of opportunity for exciting outdoor adventures. Scouts and leaders should understand and implement appropriate SUN SAFETY measures that may help to prevent injury or other bodily harm.
More than 135 merit badges are offered by the Boy Scouts of America. At least 47 of them involve outdoor activities with potential for sun exposure. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and is commonly diagnosed in teens and young adults. Huntsman Cancer Institute wants Scouts to know that skin cancer is largely preventable. Prevention starts at an early age and is an important component in outdoor Scouting activities.
World Jamboree 2019

July 22—August 2, 2019, this World Jamboree experience will bring together nearly 40,000 Scouts and Scouters from the entire World to build friendships and share common experiences. This is only the second time the World Jamboree has been held in the United States. Don’t miss this experience. There is still a limited amount of time to sign up as a youth participant (ages 14-18, both male and female), adult leader, or as a staff participant.

Details about the 2019 World Jamboree and how to apply can be found at http://www.2019WSJ.org.
