The Stormwater Scoop | June 2026

Launching our new website

This has been a long time coming, and we're so happy with the result. We've been working all year with the team at Sunny Side Creative to create a website that inspires, educates, and connects our network. From our new Resource Library, to an organized home for the BUBBAs winners, to a Webinar Archive, we'll be highlighting our new website features in Scoops to come. We hope you check it out, and let us know what you think!

Don't forget - Science and Stormwater Practices registration open until June 28th

Registration is now open for our Chesapeake Urban Stormwater Professionals Courses: Science and Stormwater Practices and Stormwater Policies and Programs. Registration for our first course is open from now until June 28th at midnight.

Welcome to our Soil Health Intern!

This summer and fall we are excited to welcome Nadia Chichester as our Soil Health intern. Nadia is working primarily on an exciting soil health research project with CSN and partners, and is coming to us from the Professional Science Master's program at University of the District of Columbia, with a focus on Urban Agriculture.

What excites you about working at CSN?

When I graduated from undergrad, I told my family I wanted an “atmospheric water generator” as a graduation gift, a machine that pulls drinking water directly from the air. Unsurprisingly, I didn't get one, but it's still on my wish list! I've always been fascinated by the connections between water, climate, and how communities interact with natural resources.

What are you hoping to do after your time at CSN?

I'm looking forward to having more hands-on involvement in the research process and gaining direct experience working with practitioners and experts in the field. I'm excited to learn from their perspectives while contributing my background in environmental science and urban agriculture.

Reach out to Nadia if...

You want to talk green cemeteries, thrift stores, animals, or urban agriculture. I hope to work in the green burial space one day and am fascinated by how cemeteries can support conservation and healthy landscapes. I've also had nearly every hair color imaginable, so I'm always open to discussing both environmental stewardship and fun questionable style decisions.

Where in the Watershed is CSN?

Washington, DC — June 10

David and Nadia traveled to the Takoma Community Center in D.C. to meet CSN Board Member and DOEE Environmental Protection Specialist Cecilia Lane, along with the research team from the University of Delaware. David and Nadia learned about the team's research on subsoiling approaches, and helped collect data on soil compaction and infiltration rates.

Designing for Water: How Engineering, Policy, and Perspective Shape Stormwater Solutions

By: Jolette Lima

Featuring: Ginny Snead, Director of Environmental and Water Resources at AMT

In her final article for us as an intern, last month, Jolette Lima took a journey through the career of Ginny Snead. This article explores how stormwater management has evolved from simply moving water away from development to designing systems that work with natural processes to improve resilience, water quality, and community spaces.
