Fitzgerald Auto Mall -- Making a Difference
Fitzgerald Auto Mall in Gaithersburg, MD, is helping to nurture future environmentalists at nearby Watkins Mill Elementary School by sponsoring a school-wide recycling competition, awarding a pizza party to the winning grade. They also upcycled a few old tires and donated them, in the form of garden planters (see the video), to the school. Students received wildflower seed cards to take home, hopefully adding a little color and a few bees to their backyards.

Van Bortel Subaru's Green Teams

Van Bortel Subaru of Rochester, NY, and Van Bortel Subaru of Victor, NY, both have a Green Team to assist in their eco-friendly efforts. There are six to eight employees on each of the teams, and other employees are recruited to join in if additional help is needed. The teams consist of a broad spectrum of employees from across all dealership departments. |

Van Bortel Subaru of Victor celebrated Arbor Day by partnering with the Victor Village Tree Board to donate and plant trees within the community. The event was held on a Saturday so that families of the dealership employees could also attend and participate. |

To enhance the community spirit even further, Victor Village Tree Board provided food and beverages to the volunteers and was quick to thank dealer Kitty Van Bortel for her generosity in purchasing the trees that were planted along Rawson Road. |
|

|
Van Bortel Subaru of Rochester chose Tinker Nature Park, in nearby Henrietta, as their project to “make a difference.” Their Green Team repaired fence posts and rails, and also picked up trash along the perimeter of the park. This event took place during the work week, and members of the Sales Delivery Team volunteered their time |

This team consists of technology-minded young people, whose responsibility is to help customers set up all the technology in their new Subaru vehicles. Now this is an outstanding idea, worthy of being implemented in each and every automobile dealership, regardless of brand or location! Ruth Perrin, who coordinates the “green” activities at Van Bortel, feels that this is an excellent opportunity for young people to become more engaged at the dealership level. As for the overall Subaru Love Promise / Eco-Friendly Retailer activities, Ruth says, “It’s good for the environment, for the community, and for the dealership.” |

Albany Subaru Sponsors the Blue Glove Crew |

The Blue Glove Crew volunteers meet just before 8am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to walk city streets in Albany and Berkeley. Wearing their signature blue gloves, each crew picks up trash from the streets, removes illegally placed posters from telephone poles, and retrieves lost items (glasses gloves, etc.) and places them on public trash receptacles so that owners can easily find and reclaim their missing possessions. |
