Each month, as part of this newsletter, I will continue to share with you my ideas and thoughts that may work for you as you strive to be more environmentally sustainable.

Roles and Responsibilities of the

Community Outreach Coordinator

A question that is often asked is, “What are the responsibilities/roles of each Green Team Member at a Subaru retailer?”. More than likely, each person on the team may have more than one role to play. A Green Team at a Subaru retailer typically consists of members with various responsibilities aimed at promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact. In this newsletter we will focus on the Community Outreach Coordinator. Here are some common roles and responsibilities:

A Community Outreach Coordinator at a Subaru retailer plays a vital role in promoting environmental responsibility. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Sustainability Initiatives – Developing and implementing eco-friendly programs, such as recycling efforts, energy-efficient practices, and waste reduction.
  • Community Engagement – Partnering with local environmental organizations to support conservation projects and green initiatives.
  • Education & Awareness – Hosting workshops and events to educate customers and employees on sustainable driving habits and vehicle maintenance.
  • Green Partnerships – Collaborating with manufacturers to promote environmentally friendly vehicle options, such as electric and hybrid cars.
  • Eco-Friendly Retail Facility Practices – Encouraging the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, and reducing water and electricity consumption.

Winner Subaru -- Dover, DE

& Arbor Day Foundation

Winner Subaru, in Dover, DE, in conjunction with "Subaru Loves the Earth," has joined forces with the Arbor Day Foundation to distribute trees in their community. Sean Larry, General Manager at Winner Subaru, describes the alliance as follows:

"This year, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Arbor Day Foundation, a collaboration that has allowed us to contribute positively to our environment and community. Together, we aimed to provide trees that not only beautify our surroundings but also play a vital role in enhancing the local ecosystem. Thanks to the dedicated team at The Arbor Day Foundation, our customers had the opportunity to register for tree pickups, giving them the chance to plant local species right here in the Dover area. This initiative allowed us to give back to nature and promote a greener, healthier environment for everyone. We would like to take a moment to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our customers who ordered trees. Your participation in this initiative demonstrates your commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our planet. We also want to thank The Arbor Day Foundation for their invaluable partnership and support in making this project a success. Together, we can continue to make a difference, one tree at a time. Let’s keep growing and nurturing our environment for future generations! Thank you for joining us on this journey!"

According to the Arbor Day Foundation web site, "The Arbor Day Foundation and Subaru have teamed up to establish the largest corporate community tree distribution program in the U.S." You can find more details here.

Hansel Subaru -- Santa Rosa, CA

Erosion Prevention

Hansel Subaru in Santa Rosa, CA, organized a group of volunteers to improve a section of Sugarloaf State Park. Hansel's web site recounts the experience as follows:

"Under the guidance of experienced staff and trained volunteers, Hansel Subaru went out to Sugarloaf State Park to focus on different sections of the park, doing trail work at Pony Gate Trail. They created a steeper slope on the edge of the trail and added a rock waterbar on the lower edge of the tread to prevent water erosion and help sustain the trail for use during the wet seasons for years to come."

Soil erosion poses a significant threat to the integrity and sustainability of walking trails, impacting both the environment and the experience of outdoor enthusiasts. Preventing soil erosion is essential to preserve the natural landscapes that attract hikers and to ensure the longevity of these recreational paths.

Rock waterbars, strategically placed along slopes, redirect water flow and reduce the speed at which it runs over the soil, significantly minimizing erosion risk. By strategically directing water runoff away from vulnerable areas, these structures not only mitigate the immediate impact of erosion but also promote the stabilization of soil and the preservation of valuable topsoil.
