June Trails E-Meeting Notes
  • Most area trails are open, though bathroom facilities are closed.
  • Rec Complex Trail: most of the remaining work is cleaning up the edges and adding some alternate routes to some of the more challenging sections.
  • Little White Oak Mt. Grants: The PARTF application has been submitted, and the RTP grant application will be completed over the summer.
  • Alexander's Ford: There has been an official recommendation from the Recreation Advisory Board to fix the muddy spots to make the original section more resilient and then allow horseback riding on that section only (not the new trail). They also recommend asking equestrian users to use a manure catcher bag.
  • Tom Raymond/ICC Loop: The Polk County Library has added a "Story Trail" to the hiking path. Come check it out!
  • SCLT: the Youth Hike challenge can be completed on your own, since the community-led hikes have been suspended. Want to participate? Download the Activity Log HERE. Workdays are being organized for various trails in the area. Contact Chuck Hearon if you are interested in helping: chearon@skyrunner.net
  • Conserving Carolina: Invasives removal is still taking place at Norman Wilder and check out the plants from the PAC office that have been moved to the Columbus branch of the Polk County Library!
  • Green River Gamelands Trails: the bathroom facilities and the Big Bradley Falls trail are closed but the other trails are open.
  • The next trails meeting is Monday, June 22 at Laura's place in Sunny View. Stay tuned for a reminder email.
