2024 Innovation Celebration

The Innovation Celebration, known nationally as the Build a Better Mousetrap (BABM) competition, is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration. This competition celebrates innovative solutions for challenges that local transportation workers may encounter.

Innovation submissions can range from the following:

  • Development of tools
  • Equipment modifications
  • New processes that increase safety, reduce cost or improve efficiency

The 2022 Innovation Celebration submission by Park Hills Public Works Director Dan VonHandorf showcased an interchangeable truck bed system for the city's Ford F-550. This equipment modification, coined the "Seasonal Switcher," allows Park Hills to utilize different truck bed attachments throughout the year.

Do you have an idea that makes your work place easier?

Agencies interested in submitting their ideas are welcome to contact brittany.cloyd@uky.edu for assistance.

Learn New Road Safety Standards with Our Webinar Wednesday

Published by the Federal Highway Administration, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD) defines the standards used by road managers nationwide to install and maintain traffic control devices on all streets, highways, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and site roadways open to public travel.

In December 2023, the MUTCD underwent many changes with the release of the 11th edition. During this webinar, we will provide a high-level overview of the 11th Edition MUTCD updates and outline the adoption process for Kentucky.
