2025 Glow Gala - A Success!
On May 10, Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) hosted our second fundraising Gala, Glow. We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to our very generous guests, together we raised $110,000+!
That night, over 180 guests enjoyed an evening of delicious food, fun, fashion and especially fundraising at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort. Gala emcee, CHEK News’ Tess van Straaten, and Auctioneer, Tony Joe, helped to make the night fun and memorable.
Thanks to our Presentation Sponsor, RBC Wealth Management Dominion Securities; Reception Sponsor, Tulipe Noire Clothing; and Dinner Sponsor, Peninsula Co-op for your leadership support of the Glow Gala. Our sincere thanks to Auction Delivery Sponsor, Maximum Express Courier and Freight; Chocolate Sponsor, Terrible Truffles; and Print Media Sponsor, the Times Colonist for helping to make the Gala such a special event.
Thank you to everyone for making this year’s Gala so memorable, and for helping us raise much-needed funds for women and children in our community who are affected by intimate partner violence.

Fostering Growth - Literally!
We’re excited to share that VWTH has received seedlings from the award-winning Get Growing, Victoria! program, thanks to the City of Victoria. These seedlings will support food security efforts at our locations and will be used in community-based programs aimed at fostering growth and resilience. Seedlings were available for clients to take with them from our Community Office.
We're also excited to have started a garden plot in the Oswald Community Garden. Participants from our new outreach group, Art in the Park, together with staff and volunteers, planted our community garden and will help maintain it going forward. The plot offers fresh produce for VWTH clients, staff and volunteers and, at the same time, it offers an opportunity to learn and connect with the VWTH community and nature.

National Indigenous History Month
June is National Indigenous History Month – a time to honour the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. On June 2, we marked 10 years since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) released its Summary Report and the 94 Calls to Action, under the leadership of The Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair.
June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and it's an opportunity to recognize, celebrate and learn more about the territories on which we live, work and play. There are several local celebrations recognizing the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of Indigenous peoples, including:

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - June 15
The World Health Organization defines seniors’ abuse and neglect as: “… a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person. Elder abuse can take various forms such as financial, physical, psychological and sexual. It can also be the result of intentional or unintentional neglect.” And, a survey conducted by the provincial Office of the Seniors Advocate (OSA) found that 28% of respondents had witnessed an incident of abuse or neglect of a senior.
Elder abuse and neglect is a growing area of concern and a human rights issue that can go unnoticed. VWTH continues to offer counselling, outreach, group, and housing programs specific to the needs of older women affected by intimate partner violence.
If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, please call our 24-hour Crisis and Information Line at 250-385-6611, or email us at info@vwth.bc.ca.

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and father figures, grandfathers, uncles, sons, and brothers who foster relationships of respect and equality, healing and learning, free of gender-based violence and abuse. VWTH is proud to be supported by countless men and boys who help our mission and raise awareness to take a stand and work to break the intergenerational cycle of intimate partner violence and abuse.
