Open Space Preservation in Raritan Township

This newly preserved property contains habitat for the northern parula (above), a species of special concern in New Jersey.

HLT helped to preserve 15 acres on Old Croton Road in partnership with Raritan Township. HLT obtained a grant from Hunterdon County in the amount of $88,625 to put towards the purchase price. This forested parcel is now permanently protected as public open space and safeguards habitat for several species of special concern in New Jersey, including northern parula, veery, wood thrush, and great blue heron. Preserving this property provides opportunities for passive recreation, enhances water quality, mitigates flooding, and protects natural resources.

Stewardship Volunteer Opportunities

From invasive garlic mustard removal to parking lot enhancements, our volunteers accomplished quite a bit at Zega-Lockatong Preserve in May! Join us at an upcoming Stewardship Saturday to care for HLT's natural lands this summer on the following dates:

Holland Highlands Preserve - June 22 | 9 AM

Dvoor Farm Preserve - July 20 | 9 AM

Zega-Lockatong Preserve - August 17 | 9 AM

Visit our Stewardship Saturdays page for more information, and RSVP to Emily Dunn, Stewardship Program Manager: emily@hunterdonlandtrust.org.

We are appreciative of support for Stewardship Saturdays by the National Park Service's Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River Program, which aims to protect the natural, cultural, and historic values of the Delaware River.

Summer Farmers' Market

Our summer farmers' market continues every Sunday from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Dvoor Farm in Flemington! For a full list of our local vendors, visit our market website, and follow the market's Facebook page for weekly updates. We hope to see you there!

Dvoor Farm Project - Construction Update

Phase I of the Dvoor Farm Project is almost complete! The bank barn now has new siding, lighting rods, and gutters. The barn siding and cupolas have been painted and copper flashing has been installed as have roof snow guards. In a couple of weeks, multiple Dutch doors will be installed in the new forebay on the courtyard side of the building. We have started raising the funds needed for Phase II, which will complete interior improvements and provide public restrooms. We will be announcing tours soon so you can see the changes up close!

Thank you to the many individual donors, New Jersey Historic Trust, Raritan Township, and Hunterdon County, who have provided the funding for this phase of the project.

Community Events

HLT is happy to be a sponsor for a Juneteenth Freedom Celebration this Sunday, June 16th, at the Dvoor Farm, hosted by Roots, Blooms, and Yards. This community event honors the ending of slavery in the United States through performances, workshops, and a tour of the Dvoor Farm.

We are also excited to be attending United Way of Hunterdon County's Summer Fiesta on Saturday, June 22nd! HLT will be sharing our bilingual resources at this event filled with music, food, local artisans, and more. We hope to see you there!
