Food Safety Ninja Launches
Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) is pleased to announce the official release of its Food Safety Ninja program on May 28, 2018. The Food Safety Ninja program is an educational tool for the food service industry that is funded through a grant from the United States Food and Drug Administration. The program also has a data collection feature that will provide public health officials with information to determine the program’s impact on food safety. Information gathered will serve as baseline data on the implementation of food safety improvement strategies for the Lake County Community Health Survey that will take place in 2020.

In order to create the program, LCGHD turned to the students of the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA). CIA students designed the Food Safety Ninja characters and materials, including animated videos, folders, posters, stickers, and magnets that will be distributed to food service industry staff. “The collaboration of LCGHD sanitarians and CIA staff and students provided a combination of food safety knowledge and art and design expertise to make an effective food safety tool,” commented Environmental Health Director Dan Lark.
