The past month has seen several first at CHESS: 

The recent CHESS Users Meeting for the first time attracted more than 200 registered participants attending the plenary sessions and two hand-on workshops focusing on Synchrotron Essentials and Biomolecules Under Pressure

Thanks to the tireless efforts of many, CHESS beamlines in sector 1,2,3, and 7 have now seen first beam in the hutch . Further installation and commissioning are under way. 

Anticipating that CHESS User operation will resume Oct. 9th, the user office has issued the first call for proposals for CHESS since the upgrade of the storage ring has been completed. New capabilities have been added to the suite of CHESS beamlines while some experiments had to be discontinued. Scientists interested in experiments at CHESS want to check out the updated beamline directory and beamline web sites and are encouraged to contact CHESS scientists for further details and with questions. 

Moreover, CHESS is continuing its long tradition of training the next generation of synchrotron experts : We are welcoming all students joining us for an exciting summer of research and development at CHESS.

Call for Proposals
Study offers new target for antibiotic resistant bacteria. As antibiotic resistance rises, the search for new antibiotic strategies has become imperative. In 2013, the Centers for Disease Control estimated that antibiotic resistant bacteria cause at least 2 million infections and 23,000 deaths a year in the U.S.; a recent report raised the likely mortality rate to 162,044.
Top 100 Papers in Scientific Reports. The Scientific Reports article on recovering degraded daguerroeotypes with X-ray fluorescence imaging at CHESS was identified to be among the top 100 highly accessed articles in Scientific Reports 2018!
