Celebrate the 43rd Annual Juneteenth on June 15th

The African American Community Service Agency (AACSA) is planning for the upcoming 43rd Annual Juneteenth in the Streets Festival on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in the SoFA District, downtown San Jose. The Festival celebrates African American heritage and presents an opportunity to educate the Santa Clara County community and guests on various topics, from health, social and racial justice, education, the arts, music, culture, and financial literacy. This year, for the first time in our festival’s history, we will celebrate Juneteenth with two Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the FAMU Marching 100 and Alabama A&M Marching Hornets, as we will host “Battle of the Bands.”

Sponsor the Festival

Sponsorship supports the goals and objectives of Juneteenth. This Juneteenth we celebrate the 158th Emancipation Proclamation and Santa Clara County becoming the first county in the state of California to make Juneteenth a county-wide holiday.

Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program Update

Did you know it is mandatory for employers with 50 or more full-time employees in the Bay Area to register with the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program? Even if your employer offers commuter benefits, to be in compliance with the Bay Area Air District’s Regulation 14, Rule 1, they are required to enroll in the program and update their registration annually. Employers must offer one or more of five types of transit benefits:

  • Pre-tax transit benefits
  • Employer-provided subsidy for transit or vanpooling
  • Employer-provided transit (such as shuttles)
  • Telework one or more days a week
  • A custom plan that includes other modes like bicycling or walking, possibly combined with promotions that encourage alternates to driving alone and more
  • Employers can play a key role in affecting air quality and traffic congestion, both of which have a strong impact on our quality of life and future sustainability. We strongly encourage employers to comply.

Enrollment in the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program is easy and free by visiting 511.org. Take advantage of the many resources to help you comply. A helpful handbook walks you through all the options, and frequently asked questions answer your most important questions. We will provide lots of resources and hands-on support if needed. For more information, visit 511.org or email the team at commuterbenefits@511.org to find out if your organization is registered.

Why SJSU is Vital to Downtown San Jose's Future

San José State University (SJSU), the oldest campus in the California State University system, is integral to the vibrancy and future of downtown San José. Last year, the university announced its plans to turn the South tower of the former Signia by Hilton hotel into student housing. Set to open for the 2024-25 academic year, the university presence is anticipated to bring innovation and energy to our downtown area. According to the university, "We will continue to be the city’s anchor institution for the next 152 years. To see the downtown draped and lit in blue and gold is a pride point, further symbolizing that we are all Spartans."
