     In September, an inaugural fundraising type event is scheduled for the Colorado Talking Book Library (CTBL).  Included in this fundraiser is a chance to bid on the following item! This can be sold prior to the auction, if the minimum bid ($5,000) is met.

The item information:

     "A personally guided and intimate hike and lunch for 15 with Erik Weihenmayer up Chief Mountain on October 22nd, weather permitting.  This is an easy class 2 mountain located above the Squaw Pass road in the foothills of Colorado's Front Range. Erik Weihenmayer of Boulder, Colorado is the only blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest and competed on the Great Race reality TV show.  You will get to hear first-hand from Erik what it is like to summit Everest and descend while taking your own climb with him." 
     A minimum bid of $5,000 is required. All proceeds will go directly to the Colorado Talking Books Library; The Colorado Talking Books Library has been serving the blind, vision impaired and print disabled of Colorado for over 75 years. Erik is a strong supporter of the Talking Book library based in Lakewood and serving the entire state. Your purchase is a charitable tax deduction.

A little about Erik:

     Erik Weihenmayer  (born September 23, 1968) is an American athlete, adventurer, author, activist and motivational speaker, and the only blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, on May 25, 2001. He was honored with a Time Magazine cover story. He also completed the Seven Summits in September 2002, joining 150 mountaineers at the time who had accomplished that feat, but the only climber who was blind. In 2008 he also added Carstensz Pyramid in West Papua New Guinea, the tallest peak in Australasia, thus completing the more respected Seventh Summit. Weihenmayer has also made noteworthy climbs up the Nose of El Capitan in Yosemite in 1996, and ascended Losar, a 2700-foot vertical ice face in the Himalayas which he ascended in two days and 3 hours, in 2008.   He is the author of Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man's Journey to Climb Farther Than the Eye Can See, his  memoir ; and The Adversity Advantage, Turning Everyday Struggles into Everyday Greatness.
