Barb was originally referred to the Crisis Center from the University of South Florida’s Victim Advocacy Program after she was sexually assaulted by her boyfriend. In the months following her assault, Barb experienced intrusive thoughts, avoidance, anxiety, insomnia, and nightmares consistent with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Her grades began to slip because she struggled to focus and was anxious to be around crowds on campus. Ultimately, Barb made the difficult decision to take a semester off from school to attend trauma therapy and focus on moving on from what had happened to her.
