Student Tribunal Training: July 31

On July 31, 2019 , Georgia Appleseed's  Young Professionals Council  is hosting a CLE, in partnership with Alston & Bird , to train attorneys to represent students in foster care who are facing public school disciplinary hearings.

When a public school student faces a potential long-term suspension or expulsion, the student is entitled to an administrative hearing called a tribunal. Long-term removal from school often dramatically impacts a child’s future. For foster care children, who have already endured the trauma of being removed from their family homes, exclusion from school can be devastating. Georgia Appleseed works to ensure children in foster care have an attorney to represent them in tribunals.

Attorneys completing the training may opt to enter a pool of volunteers who provide tribunal representation to children in foster care. The July 31 training is free to attend and $20 for those who wish to receive CLE credit . Register here .
