Summer Reading is underway--and it's for readers of ALL ages!
It's happening! NKCPL's 2022 Summer Reading Program is currently underway. This year's theme? Oceans of Possibilities.

Go here to register now (or stop by the Library, and we can get you signed up!), and start logging your reads to earn rewards and prizes. This year's program runs through August 6, and is open to readers of ALL ages.

Couple of program highlights: On the Children's side, we've created a fun paper game board this year to make it easier than ever for kids to track their reading minutes. Grab one of those next time you're in!

On the young adult side, we've got great rewards, including a fab coupon packet and a pizza gift card.

On the adult side, you get a fun zip-pouch and a coupon for a free drink item at POST Coffee Co., just for signing up. A definite don't-miss!

For more info about SRP, and to get started, go to nkcpl.org. Happy reading this summer!
For kids and families: Lots of fun on the calendar at NKCPL this summer!
Hey kiddos! There's a lot going on in the Children's department this summer, in addition to SRP.

First, we're excited to resume our weekly Storytimes, starting this month. Join us on Tuesdays @ 5:30 p.m. and Wednesdays @ 10 a.m. for Pre-k Storytimes.

We're also offering a new *Sensory Storytime* on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at 10 a.m. These sessions, geared toward neuro-diverse pre-k-aged kiddos, will be capped at a smaller number than other Storytimes and will offer lots of relaxing sensory play.

And don't forget to check out our Saturday events! Join us for a Deserted Island Survival Challenge on June 11, featuring test-your-skills scenarios and interactive stations, and a super-fun Princess Storytime featuring Princess Moana on June 25. For that one, you can come dressed as royalty (if you want!). On July 23, Mad Science will be here to lead a fun dive into the science of the ocean.

For more info about programs and events for kids and families, and to see what else is coming up, go to nkcpl.org. Hope to see you at the Library this summer!
Plus: NKCPL's Annual Kiwanis-sponsored Summer Drawing Contest starts June 15!
Calling all kid artists! This summer's annual Kiwanis-sponsored drawing contest starts June 15 and runs through the end of July. Stop by the Library to pick up a copy of this year's template/form, and get your markers and colored pencils ready! The theme this summer? A place I'd like to visit someday.

This year's contest will choose winners in four age groups: ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Each winner will receive a $25 gift card, courtesy of co-sponsor Country Financial. The Northland Art League will judge the entries, and winners will be notified by phone at the conclusion of the contest. Good luck, artists!
Come stitch with us at Common Threads!
Did you know? The Library offers hands-on sewing classes via our in-house sewing lab called Common Threads, which is located on the building's lower level.

Each month, we offer an Intro to the Machine class for beginners--or anyone who wants to brush up on their sewing machine skills. We also offer a project class, which will vary from month to month. The project classes are tailored to advanced beginners, or folks who've sewn at least a little bit before and will be able to use the machine mostly on their own (once pointed in the right direction, of course!). This month's project class: Make a Zipper Bag on Tuesday, June 7 @ 1 p.m.

Questions about these classes? Or want to share a preference about class topics or times? Email abrown@nkcpl.org.

Go to nkcpl.org for class dates and details, and to sign up for a session or two. Hope to see you in the studio soon!
