About AHC

Founded in 1975, AHC Inc. is a nonprofit developer of affordable housing that provides quality homes and education programs for families living on low and moderate incomes throughout the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas.

AHC contracts third-party companies that manage its apartment communities. These companies have onsite staff, including community managers, maintenance teams, and leasing staff. AHC also has Resident Services (RS) staff who are onsite representatives of AHC.

AHC’s Resident Services program reaches 3,000 children, teens, adults, and seniors annually through onsite education, social service programs, and activities.

AHC wants to connect with our communities, so we started this newsletter to share updates. Please get in touch with us if you have feedback or ideas for newsletter content.

Resident Feedback Results!

Thank you to all who completed the recent survey with questions about your home, community, and how to build community. We gathered data from residents to include resident voices and experiences in our planning for the future.

The feedback revealed a strong sense of home among residents regarding their communities. This feedback provided valuable insights that will guide AHC's future initiatives.

Actionable Tips for a Secure Community Lifestyle

Community Highlight: Goodwill Development

Goodwill of Greater Washington (Goodwill) and AHC Inc. (AHC) announced they are partnering on a groundbreaking initiative to provide a service-enriched, affordable housing community and a new, world-class retail store and donation center on the site of the existing Goodwill store on Glebe Road in Arlington, VA.

Goodwill plans to demolish and rebuild its flagship store at 10 South Glebe Road in Arlington, VA, pending approval by Arlington County. AHC will develop a family-focused affordable housing complex above the new Goodwill store and donation center, with sufficient parking for residents and shoppers. Please email us your thoughts at [email protected].

Congratulations Graduates!

This year, the College and Career Readiness (CCR) program included 37 high school seniors and 32 juniors from AHC residences. The students received acceptance from 156 out of the 257 schools they applied to and $13.3 million in gift aid and scholarships from those schools. Many of the students will attend their university at no cost.

The CCR program is a school-year commitment that supports juniors and seniors in high school transition to their next step after graduation.

This program is available to all students in our AHC communities.

Volunteer Appreciation

AHC is celebrating and honoring the 1,500-plus individuals and groups who generously contributed over 6,900 hours of their time through our education and social services programs in 2022.

Many of AHC’s volunteers connect directly with youth through our multi-tiered education program. These dedicated volunteers help build students’ literacy and math skills in our afterschool and teen programs.

Volunteers also support food distributions and participate in community clean-up projects.
