Our 8th Save of Christmas

Little Kitty, a petite senior with a tender spirit, came to the Mountainair, NM Animal Shelter with her brother, Big Kitty, after their owner was removed from his home by Adult Protective Services. The shelter doesn’t typically house cats, but the director couldn’t bear to leave them behind. Thanks to her compassion—and yours—Little Kitty’s story didn’t end in fear or uncertainty.

For shy senior cats like Little Kitty, losing their home and their person is overwhelming. Cats who retreat, hide, or struggle with change are often overlooked in shelters. Many never get the chance to decompress, much less find another home. But at June’s Senior Cat Rescue, seniors are never rushed, overlooked, or forgotten. They’re met with patience, gentleness, and the time they need to feel safe again.

Little Kitty is slowly discovering that safety at June’s. She’s still shy and spends much of her day tucked into her cozy cave bed—her safe place. But at mealtime, she gathers her courage and emerges to visit her foster mom, a small but meaningful step in rebuilding her trust. And her brother, Big Kitty, stays close, offering the quiet comfort only a sibling can give.

Here, Little Kitty is allowed to be exactly who she is. She doesn’t have to perform, adjust quickly, or be “adoptable.” She can take the time she needs to heal, settle, and feel secure—because that’s what every senior cat deserves.

This Holiday Season, Little Kitty is one of our 12 Saves—a reminder that every shy, frightened senior deserves safety, patience, and love.

As we continue to care for cats like Little Kitty, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to the senior cats in our care.
