Our 5th Save of Christmas

Sweet Pea came to June’s from a shelter in Socorro. This petite, 15-year-old girl had been surrendered by her previous owners when they couldn’t care for her because of health problems. While at the shelter, Sweet Pea had experienced a respiratory infection and GI problems, and no one was interested in adopting her.

When she arrived, she almost immediately took to our Executive Director, Janet. Sweet Pea loved sitting in Janet’s office, often perched on the desk right next to Janet while she worked.

A few days after Sweet Pea joined us, we learned that she had heart failure and only had a short time left with us. She passed peacefully one week after she came to June’s.

Being with our seniors during their final days is at the heart of what we do. It’s one of the most difficult—and most meaningful—parts of our mission. While losing a cat never gets easier, it’s an emotional burden we gladly take on. We take comfort in knowing that Sweet Pea had found her place—right on Janet’s desk—and wasn’t in a cage alone when she left this world. Instead, she was surrounded by love after spending her final days with comfort and love.

This Holiday Season, Sweet Pea is one of our 12 Saves of Christmas—one of the lives your kindness has changed forever.

Your generosity is the reason Sweet Pea got to spend her final days surrounded by love… and the reason we can say yes to the next cat who needs us. As we continue to care for cats like Sweet Pea, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to the senior cats in our care.
