Our 7th Save of Christmas

Big Kitty is one of those cats whose name fits him perfectly—big, friendly, and full of personality. He even knows his name and will trot over when called, eager for attention. He and his sister, Little Kitty, came to us from the Mountainair animal shelter after their owner was removed from his home by Adult Protective Services. The shelter doesn’t usually take in cats, but the director couldn’t bear to leave them behind. We’re so grateful she didn’t.

For senior cats, losing their home due to an owner’s illness or crisis can be as life-altering as losing their person entirely. With nowhere to go and limited options, many seniors end up in crowded shelters that aren’t equipped for their needs—or worse, they’re simply left behind. But Big Kitty didn’t face that fate.

This is exactly why June’s Senior Cat Rescue exists. Our mission ensures that senior cats who lose their homes, their safety, or their people have somewhere soft to land—a safe haven where they can live out their golden years in warmth, comfort, and love.

Today, Big Kitty is settling beautifully into his new life. True to his name, he has a big presence and an even bigger heart. He’s busy exploring his new surroundings, claiming the coziest spots, and has already discovered the softest of soft beds—perfect for long, luxurious naps. With each passing day, he grows more comfortable, more confident, and more at home.

This Holiday Season, Big Kitty is one of our 12 Saves of Christmas—a senior cat whose life is safer and brighter because someone cared.

As we continue to care for cats like Big Kitty, we humbly ask for your support. Your contribution, whether through our wishlist or as a tax-deductible gift, allows us to provide life-saving care and love to the senior cats in our care.
