Bruce came to June’s with two other cats, Jersey and Tailless, after their owner passed away. At 14, he had already lived two very different lives. He grew up in a feral colony in Albuquerque, surviving scorching summers, freezing winters, and long nights on hard pavement. Later, when he was taken in by a kind family, Bruce finally learned what safety and comfort felt like.
But when his owner died, everything changed again.
For senior cats, this moment can be the most dangerous of their lives. Families grieving a loss may not know what to do with their loved one’s pets. Too often, older cats are abandoned or surrendered to shelters where they are overlooked, frightened, and at high risk of euthanasia—simply because of their age.
