Our 1st Save of Christmas

This holiday season we wanted to bring you the remarkable stories of 12 cats saved this year.

Our first save of Christmas was quite the standout.

On January 2nd, 2024, Mathias walked into the warmth and safety of JSCR’s care, after a life spent struggling on the streets. When we first met him, he was thin, horribly matted, covered in fleas, and suffering from severe dental issues. To make matters worse, Mathias tested positive for both FeLV and FIV—two conditions that meant the odds were stacked against him. The vets didn’t think he had long to live.

Despite his “resting grump face”, inside Mathias was all sweetness. He craved affection and attention, and though we didn't know how much time he had, we knew we had to show him what it meant to be adored.

Against all odds, Mathias thrived! He gained three pounds, started to play, and truly began to live his best life. He even found a knack for painting. His joy was contagious, and every day with him was a gift. Mathias graced us with six months of love, snuggles, and his unique, grumpy charm.

Mathias was incredibly special—his spirit, his resilience, and his ability to love despite the hardships he'd endured made him a cherished part of our JSCR family. His journey was a reminder of just how much love can heal.
