Meet Thurston, a resilient senior cat with a heartwarming story that underscores the power of love and compassion. Thurston's journey began in the streets of Rio Rancho, where he roamed freely, seeking solace in the yard of a kind-hearted woman named Lorraine. Despite her desire to have him neutered, his owner (Lorraine's neighbor) refused. Thurston's spirit, however, remained undeterred, and he continued to visit Lorraine, who kept a vigilant eye on his wellbeing.
One fateful day, Lorraine noticed Thurston had sustained wounds from fighting. Understanding the urgent need for care, she brought him onto her screened porch to treat his injuries. It was then she discovered Thurston was deaf! We still marvel at how he survived so many years outside without the ability to hear. With patience and tenderness, Lorraine gradually gained Thurston's trust. Eventually, she convinced his owner to let her take him in permanently.
Lorraine reached out to June’s Senior Cat Rescue for assistance. Thanks to your past generosity, Thurston was neutered, received a bloodwork panel, and was approximately 12 years old. Lorraine expressed her desire to become Thurston's "Furever Foster", a heartwarming program where dedicated individuals provide a forever home to senior cats, and June's Senior Cat Rescue covers all their veterinary expenses.
However, Thurston's journey to recovery is not yet complete. A couple of months after his neuter, Lorraine noticed his eyes were irritated. A subsequent vet visit revealed several major medical issues that need immediate attention. Thurston needs:
- An echocardiogram (echo) to investigate his heart as the vet is concerned he may have heart issues. His echo is scheduled for June 25th, and the results will determine if, and when, we can proceed with his other needs.
- Entropion surgery to correct his eyelids that have rolled inward allowing his eyelashes to scratch his eyes.
- A dental to address many teeth issues
- A biopsy on his ear to check for cancer
The total cost for these crucial treatments is $1,800.
We are reaching out to you, our compassionate community, for help. Your donations will directly fund the medical care Thurston urgently needs. With your support, we can ensure Thurston continues to live a comfortable, pain-free life with Lorraine, who has opened her heart and home to this incredibly brave senior cat.
Please consider making a donation today. No amount is too small, and every contribution brings Thurston one step closer to a healthier, happier life. Together, we can give him the second chance he so deserves.
