Katie, a sweet, 13-year-old tabby, came to us in March through our Feline Legacy Program. Her owner was dying of cancer and wanted to be sure her beloved feline companion was taken care of after she passed.
When her owner passed, Katie came to us shy and hesitant. We helped her settle into Hannah’s House, where many of our rescues stay, and she was been spotted in a lap or two. Unfortunately, Katie had allergies and she developed a granuloma—a response to chronic inflammation—on her neck. After watchful waiting by the vet, Katie had surgery to remove the growth in late June.
After the surgery, Katie returned to Hannah’s House, where she was able to recuperate with 24/7 care. As she recovered, her sweet personality came out, and she became the laid-back and affectionate little girl we know now. Katie is now fully recovered and is looking for a home where she can enjoy the little things in life, like a soft bed, a quiet spot in a sunbeam, and a warm lap. If you are interested in adopting Katie, please call us at (505) 220-3528.
Your support of June’s Senior Cat Rescue is what lets us help cats like Katie. Senior cats who have lost their owner face many obstacles in returning to some sense of normalcy in their lives. Often, families don’t know what to do with a cat after a loved one dies, so they take the cat to a shelter. But shelters just aren’t set up for senior cats. They lack experience in helping older cats who are used to a cozy home and are grieving the loss of their human. Senior cats also languish at shelters where kittens are frequently the ones who are adopted. Some seniors may even face euthanasia if they’re not adopted within a certain amount of time.
That’s where we come in. June’s Senior Cat Rescue is dedicated to providing loving care and comfort to senior cats in their golden years. We have years of experience with senior cat care, from helping them navigate grief and loss to resettling into a new home. We are veterans at handling the typical health problems that senior cats develop, and we can provide 24-hour care to senior cats with special needs.
However, we can’t do the important work we do with senior cats without the help of our generous donors. Running a rescue with about 50 cats requires love and care, but it also requires lots of food, litter, and veterinary care. That’s where you come in. Your gift, in any amount, helps keep us running so we can continue to take care of senior cats like Katie, who need food, vet care, and people dedicated to her well-being.
