Precious Tortilla found herself at the Torrance County Animal Shelter in the small town of McIntosh, New Mexico. Her history is a mystery because she came in as a stray. Though she was microchipped, the shelter was never able to make contact with her owners. They estimated she was about 8 years old, but we found out her microchip was implanted in 2011, making her at least 14.

Tortilla, who is quite shy, waited at the shelter for a month hoping either her family would come for her, or someone would fall in love with her and take her home. A month is a long time for a senior to stay in a shelter environment. Though many shelters do their best to make their environment as comfortable as possible, it's still a stressful place to be, especially for an older kitty. It's also a risky place to be as seniors are more prone to illnesses and can easily catch something at the shelter. Thus, despite being full, we decided we needed to make space for Tortilla, because there's always room for one more tortilla, right?

As we do with all our new seniors, this pretty girl had a blood panel done at her intake exam. Through this, we discovered she has stage two kidney disease. This is not uncommon for cats her age and will be managed with a special diet and supplemental fluids if needed.

Though reserved, Tortilla is actually very affectionate and loves attention. We are thrilled to share with you, after all she's gone through, this special girl found an amazing Forever Foster! Thank you, Ashley for opening your heart and home to this scrumptious kitty! We are thrilled Tortilla gets to share her cozy cuddles with someone who will adore her for the rest of her days. Food or feline, warm tortillas really are the best.
