The 1889 Foundation was proud to serve as the Presenting Partner of this year's Johnstown Walk of Hope. The annual event brings the community together to raise awareness, honor those affected by cancer, and celebrate hope through the power of community support. The Foundation is honored to support initiatives that promote health, wellness, and encourage our community to stand together for an important cause.

Supporting Emergency Medical Services

$145,000 Awarded to Southern Alleghenies EMS

The Foundation recently awarded $145,000 to Southern Alleghenies EMS to help fund a new state-of-the-art EMS training trailer.

The mobile training unit features a fully equipped ambulance driving simulator, allowing first responders to safely practice emergency vehicle operations. The rear portion of the trailer replicates the interior of a working ambulance, giving EMS professionals the opportunity to train in realistic patient care scenarios before responding to real emergencies.

This investment will help strengthen emergency medical services throughout the region by providing advanced, hands-on training for current and future EMS professionals.

Over the past ten years, the Foundation has invested more than $3.5 million into Cambria and Somerset Counties, through United Way’s Community Impact Grants, to support programs focused on population health, childhood development, food security, housing assistance, mental health services, early childhood education, and countless other community initiatives.
