TCWP June Update
Welcome to the Teton County Weed and Pest District Monthly Update.
Our monthly update informs Teton County residents with useful and timely information pertaining to Mosquitoes and Invasive Species affecting Teton County and the greater Rocky Mountain Region.

NATIONAL MOSQUITO AWARENESS WEEK
Amidst weekends of endless summer activities such as camping, hiking, and days at the lake the last thing on your mind might be pesky mosquitoes, but for Teton County Weed & Pest, we have been hard at work trying to mitigate and minimize the 2018 mosquito season.
Every year a week at the end of June is dedicated to National Mosquito Awareness Week ( June 24-30, 2018), by the the American Mosquito Control Association, to further education about the significance of mosquitoes in our daily lives and the work done by control workers nationwide.

SPRING IS HERE!
WHEN CAN YOU START TREATING WEEDS?
Summer is here and with the arrival of warm temps and sunshine come the season of noxious weed growth. Noxious weeds are invasive plants that has been introduced into an environment and causes or is likely to cause environmental or economic harm. TCWP works hard year-round to combat invasive species throughout the county but with the help of local landowners, the effect of the combined effort is much greater.

AS A MOUNTAIN BIKER, WHAT’S YOUR ROLE?
Countless trails offer nearly unlimited mountain biking throughout Teton County; with the endless miles come ample responsibilities and opportunities to be an active member of our outdoor community. As people continue to push the limits of the
sport, the potential to unintentionally spread invasive expands. Learn from our short video on why it is so important to keep equipment and clothing clean.

PlayCleanGo and Stop Invasive Species In Your Tracks! Be a Teton County advocate in preventing the spread and caring for our natural resources.

  • REMOVE plants, animals & mud from boots, gear, pets & vehicle.
  • CLEAN your gear before entering & leaving the recreation site.
  • STAY on designated roads & trails.
  • USE CERTIFIED hay and local firewood.
WEED OF THE MONTH - Houndstongue & Black Henbane
Buttercups, spring beautys, and chokecherries have already lost their blooms, and Arrowleaf Balsamroot is lighting up the hillsides. A few noxious weeds are also about to flower during this transition. There are two particularly unpleasant weeds, Houndstongue & Black Henbane, flowering at this time that you should prevent from making a deposit into their “seed bank.”
