SURFs in the field
Student Spotlight Former SURFs continue career paths
Erin Frates (2018) worked with URI Graduate School of Oceanography's Dr. Roxanne Beinart examining microbial communities in Narragansett Bay. This summer, she is working with astrobiologist Melissa Floyd at NASA's Goddard Space Center for 10 weeks as an undergraduate associate using epiflourescence microscopy to detect microbes in NASA's clean room facility.
Ben Sacco (2018) was a student of URI Graduate School of Oceanography's Dr. Tatiana Rynearson studying diatoms & learning how to catalog water samples through PCR. He is now working as a shellfishing assistant for the Town of Barnstable, helping their team of biologists to maintain the town's aquaculture stocks for recreational purposes.
