As we celebrate Juneteenth this month, we honor a history of resilience, community, and collective progress.

Juneteenth commemorated June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It is both a celebration of freedom and a reminder that progress often requires community action, persistence, and hope.

That spirit of collective care and community investment is woven throughout MAWOCN's work.

"From supporting advocates and leaders across Massachusetts to creating spaces for healing, connection, and growth, we know that lasting change happens when people come together."

This month, we're preparing for our annual R.E.N.T. Party: Then. Now. Next. Impact Celebration & Fundraiser, a gathering inspired by the historic rent parties that helped communities support one another through challenging times.

As we reflect on where we've been, celebrate where we are, and invest in what's next, we invite you to join us in continuing that legacy.

Thank you for being part of our community.

Lifting As We Climb.

Did You Know?

The official Juneteenth flag is red, white, and blue.

Created in 1997 by activist Ben Haith, the flag's colors symbolize that the descendants of enslaved people are Americans and that freedom belongs to all. The bursting star in the center represents a new beginning and the ongoing promise of freedom.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, but communities have celebrated it for more than 150 years through gatherings, education, food, music, and community connection.

At MAWOCN, we recognize the importance of preserving history while investing in the future, a value reflected in this year's R.E.N.T. Party: Then. Now. Next.

You Are Part of The Solution

You May Already Be Supporting Survivors — You Just Don't Know It.

A survivor could be a client, employee, customer, coworker, neighbor, friend, or family member.

Every day, advocates across Massachusetts provide support, resources, education, and connection to survivors and their communities. MAWOCN exists to strengthen that network through training, leadership development, community care, and collective action.

As we prepare for our upcoming fundraiser, R.E.N.T. Party: Then. Now. Next., we're asking our community to help spread the word.

Share this flyer. Start a conversation. Invite a friend. Help someone learn more about the work happening across our state.
