Happy MWBE / Philanthropy Thursday and
Juneteenth to our Aero-Ba-Soul, Inc. Community Family!
We hope that everyone is well today!
|
|
June 19, 1865, two years after President Abraham Lincoln presented the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, slaves in Texas finally received word: They were free.
Black communities in Texas and beyond annually celebrate this day, Juneteenth, which officially became a federal holiday in 2021.
Freedom is a thread, and a fight, woven through this nation's history and current political climate. Continue to take action to celebrate and ensure true freedom for
all through awareness of racial disparities, mobilization, and bold actions necessary to further the fight for social justice and equal opportunity.
Celebrate Juneteenth by taking action to progress policies to give Black Americans equal opportunity throughout the nation.
Growing up in Mt. Vernon and Yonkers, Kecia and Kevin have been celebrating Juneteenth for years with their families. Kecia joined the Peekskill Juneteenth Heritage
Committee back in 2011.. and was able to secure the late actor Michael K. Williams as a 2012 Peekskill Juneteenth Grand Marshall. The late, great Honorable County Legislator and Educator Lois Bronz was also a 2012 Peekskill Juneteenth Heritage Grand Marshall, secured by the wonderful, dedicated, youth advocate, the former Peekskill Executive Director Valerie Swan.
In today’s MWBE/Philanthropy Thursday, Aero-Ba-Soul, Inc.’s CEO Kecia Palmer-Cousins and COO Kevin Cousins would like to share some ways that everyone can make an impact and celebrate Juneteenth this year and every year!
