Spark Tank Week Inspires Future Entrepreneurs

JA Fellows 2019 Spark Tank Week Highlights
JA Fellows 2019 Spark Tank Week Highlights

It was a busy week November 4th-8th at JA World Huizenga Center at the Lillian S. Wells Pavilion. Sixteen JA Fellows Entrepreneurship Program teams from local high schools pitched their companies and products to our sharks (business professionals). Special thanks to our sharks for asking critical questions and providing feedback to the students who are managing their small businesses.

This year's top 10 teams will be competing at the Spark Tank Finale on Saturday, April 4th, for the coveted JA Company of the Year and the chance to compete at the National Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in June.

For more information about this entrepreneurial program, contact Martha Rios at (954) 979-7103 or email Martha@JASouthFlorida.org.

Board of Directors News:
Welcome New Members
President & CEO Laurie Sallarulo and Board Chair Tim Rubin welcome new member Gregory Thompson and JA alum Brianna Myrie at the October Meeting. Unable to attend was new member Zach Morrison.

JA Alumnus Brianna Myrie had the opportunity to share her gratitude to our Board of Directors at the recent October Meeting. This JA Career Bound standout had an internship recently with JA before moving on to a full-time position.  "Junior Achievement has changed my life by opening many doors in the workforce and teaching me the skills I need to thrive in any environment."

In addition, the Board welcomed its newest members Zach Morrison, Chief Executive Officer of Tinuiti, and Gregory Thompson, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of KEMET Electronics Corporation. Both have had an impact on our high school students. Zach has served as a mentor and shark for the JA Fellows Entrepreneurship Program and Spark Tank Finale. Greg and his team at KEMET have hired several of our JA Career Bound students as summer employees. Congratulations, and welcome to the JA family!

Junior Achievement of South Florida inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a competitive, global economy by providing real world training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness.
