Dear Juniors and Families,

Student-Led Conferences at AHS are designed to help students reflect on their learning and growth while practicing important communication skills. Generally, SLCs take place on campus over the course of one afternoon, with parents in attendance and students leading the conversation while teachers observe. This fall, however, we will schedule SLCs individually and virtually.

For juniors, SLCs will happen on Tuesday, October 13 between 8am and 4pm, unless that time frame doesn't work for a particular family. There will be no regularly scheduled online class meetings on that day so that teachers in the Junior Team can meet with families.

As a reminder, juniors will come to campus on Wednesday, October 14 to take the PSAT/NMSQT, so having some extra time available on Tuesday to complete work independently will help students stay on top of their school work.

SLCs will consist of an online conversation between the student, a parent and that student's Flock Leader (Jessica for Pod 1, Julian for Pod 2 and Steve for Pod 3). The focus of the SLC will be on an academic improvement plan, developed by the student prior to the SLC, for any classes of concern. The academic improvement plan will be shared with the Flock Leader and any teacher with whose class the student is currently needing to up their engagement.

Juniors will be required to complete an SLC only if they have a C- or below in any core class, or if any of their elective teachers are concerned that the level of engagement in their course might indicate that a student is in danger of failing that class.

Junior teachers will explain more about the SLC format to students in today's online classes and on Friday morning, juniors will learn in Flock meetings whether or not they are required to complete an SLC. During Flex Period on Friday, all juniors will write an email home that will include a grade check; those required to complete an SLC will include information about scheduling it.

Please reach out to your student's Flock Leader with any questions!
