7 Days Left for Ella Jenkins Doc
Dear Ella Jenkins fans,

Your outreach is working.

You've been calling, posting and emailing. The donations are trickling in.

With your outreach in the last 24 hours, we've surpassed 300 backers. With 7 days to go, we have to seize the opportunity to widen the circle even further and reach our goal.

As the director, I can email and post about the campaign all day long, and I do. But as a supporter who loves Ella, I need your help to spread the word to other fans and friends. This film will only be made with your help.

In the last update, I sent a time-tested script for a phone call that could be used to notify people about the campaign. Below is a template for sending email, which can include a direct link to the campaign- the fastest way for supporters to contribute.

Feel free to copy and modify as you see fit, but be sure to include the campaign link in your email:

Dear _____,

I'm stepping out of my comfort zone to ask for your support for an important project.

Do you remember Ella Jenkins, the First Lady of Children's Music? She was a regular on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood and lots of other shows. She has played for kids on all continents, including Antarctica, and she even has a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award!

A filmmaker in Ella's hometown of Chicago is making a documentary about Ella's life and work, and the project needs to reach its funding goal now to ensure that they can complete their time sensitive production. You can learn about the film on the Indiegogo here: www.indiegogo.com/at/ellajenkins

Ella just turned 90, and her story is incredible. She's made a difference in the lives of thousands of children, and in the lives of countless musicians who have followed in her footsteps. She opened the doors to music for generations of children, AND she fought for civil rights, labor rights, justice, and quality education. Over nine decades, Ella has carved out her own unique place in history.

In just 7 days as supporters we will  have EITHER raised the funding to tell Ella's story, inspiring generations to come;

... OR, if we haven't reached our goal by Sept. 30, the film will go into limbo while the production is forced to regroup, which will jeopardize the entire film.

I've committed to raising at least $500 in the next three days by reaching out to my contacts to tell them about the project. There are great thank you gifts at various levels including a DVD of the film, as well as Ella's music, t-shirts, autographed posters, and even several opportunities to have an audience with Ella!

I encourage you to contribute what you can to this important project. No matter the size, every donation counts. After you contribute, I'll check to make sure your donation went through.

Please let me know of others with whom I might share this important project. Thank you for your help!

    Light the Night
A couple of weeks ago we had a great surprise when Chicago's hometown heroes of rock, Wilco, posted about Ella Jenkins and our campaign. This surprise was thanks to Sue Miller Tweedy, who is a fan and onetime student of Ella's!

Sue's friends are raising funds for the Light the Night Walk in support of leukemia and lymphoma research, education and patient services. I encourage you to visit the fundraising page for Team Sue, and donate if you can.

Backer Contest

The contest is for a signed copy of Ella's award-winning latest release, More Multicultural Children's Songs is still on. Any $50+ donation to the Indiegogo campaign before Thursday at midnight will be entered to win.

Thank you for spreading the word.
Let's keep this push going!
