WORSHIP
From the Organ Bench
As the Chancel Choir starts back this Sunday, we also welcome saxophonist Kyle Blake Jones, from Kingsport, Tennessee. Kyle played for us last July. He begins his second year in the Artist Diploma program at the University of Texas at Austin. We will play both Opening and Closing Voluntaries.

The Opening Voluntary is “Prayer of St. Gregory” by Alan Hovhaness. Hovhaness (1911-2000) was born in Somerville, Massachusetts to parents of Armenian and Scottish descent. His compositional output began at the age of 4 and, while he had composed more than a thousand works by the time of the World War II, he made the decision to destroy almost his entire output.  continued>>

All Youth Are Invited to Join Steve Fey for Youth Bells Kick-Off
I’m excited about the kick-off of Youth Bells, which I will be directing during the interim time. For those who don’t know me, I’m organist Vicki’s husband. Vicki and I worked together for many years as church music directors; in our last position I directed our youth handbell choir for over 15 years. The plan is to rehearse three Sunday mornings starting September 15 , then offer music on World Communion Sunday on October 6. Rehearsal location and time, the bell room and 9:00 a.m., are unchanged from the past.

All interested youth are welcome – no prior experience ringing bells is required!

New Program Year for Learning Begins Sunday, September 8
The Ministry of Learning is excited about Sunday, September 8, when new opportunities for Christian Education will begin for all ages.

Children
For Children’s Sunday School this year, we will be using Godly Play with three groups: Preschool, Kindergarten-2nd grade, and 3rd grade - 5th grade. Godly Play takes a creative look into biblical stories by exploring these narratives through wonder and play! When you see our Children's Sunday School teachers, Hannah Palmer, Sally Wood, Kimberly Amos, Lewis Amos, Emily Hilimire, Jeff Hilimire, Amy Kirkland, Cindi Yarbrough, Wende Ballew, Ginger Heidbreder, Marcia Catterall, Gayle Knight, Nancy Glenn, and Jill Lum be sure to thank them for leading, guiding, and teaching our children in Sunday School this year!

Youth
Meeting in the Youth Suite, the middle school youth and high school youth are divided into separate classes; but all will be exploring different topics such as grace, tolerance, guns, sabbath, and more! When you see Kip Ladd, Mary Lillian Walker, Sean Smith, Erin Gerber, and Susan Landrum, thank them for serving as Sunday School teachers for our youth this year! Sunday School begins at 9:45 AM - we hope to see your youth there!

Adults
At Central, we believe that Christian education is a lifelong journey. In addition to gathering for worship, adults are encouraged to participate in classes on Sunday mornings. This fall, we will have three adult classes from which to choose. Curriculum for these classes is still being finalized; watch upcoming issues for all the details.
