A Note from Scott and Marsha
November 28, 2019
If you have subscribed to our emails for a while, you know Marsha usually writes a funny story about what is going on here at FGS. Occasionally, Scott will get a wild hair and take a turn. But this week, I knew I had to hack the post because Marsha needed a break. If you are following us on social media (and if you aren’t following us, just know you are missing out), you have seen that Marsha has been really busy elfin' around over the past couple of weeks. And I mean...Santa’s workshop elves ain’t got nothin’ on her (Marsha would never use such southern slang...forgive me). Granted, she has had help from a lot of the other elves running around here, but she has been in Christmas-decorating-turning-Garden-Center-into-magical-wonderland-mode for WEEKS. She has built, cut, painted, hung, glued, sawed, drilled, and taped (not all in that order) gingerbread men, lollipops, toy soldiers, candies, snowflakes, Christmas lights, reindeer stables, Frozen backdrops….I mean I could go on, but you are probably already dizzy with the Christmas madness.

Marsha loves Christmas. She does. But she is not doing all of this for herself and her love of Christmas. She is doing it for her love of YOU. She does all of this madness for YOU. Seriously. She LOVES you people. She gets so excited about the idea of you and your children (if applicable) coming here and being thrilled by all the fun decorations, picking out the beautiful holiday plants, and having a spot for you to take cute pics. If you haven’t been up here yet to see all the Christmas fun we have going on, there is no better time than, well, tomorrow. Or Saturday, or the day after that. We’ll be here in Christmas mode all December! Perhaps the BEST day to be here will be the Winter Fun Fest on December 7. I can 100% guarantee you Marsha will be here just as giddy as (if not more giddy) than any of the kids running around here. But don't wait for the Winter Fun Festival! Come out this weekend, pick out your tree, wreaths, garland, and poinsettias. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, nibble on a cookie, and make all of this elfin’ around worth it for Marsha. You’ll be glad you did. She’ll be glad you did. Win- win for everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!!  We are so thankful for every one of you.
Saturday, Dec. 7, 11-6PM
Join us for a winter fun-filled day. You will find fresh Christmas trees, wreaths, poinsettias, garlands, gifts and more for you to purchase at the Garden Center. Fun activities will be going on all day, starting at 11AM! Kids can ride the train to the North Pole , get their faces painted , and enjoy story time with Elsa and Olaf .  We’ll have food trucks , carolers and of course the bar will be open for some adult fun as well. You can shop in our Arts and Crafts Market from multiple vendors. We will end our event with a Christmas Tree lighting at 5:30PM. You don’t want to miss this event!
Saturday, Dec. 14, 2-3PM
We know what you are thinking...peaches in December? Not peaches... mandarin oranges and pecans . The Peach Truck will return on Saturday, December 14 from 2-3PM with satsuma and kishu mandarins that are juicier, sweeter and easier to peel than common clementines. They will also have bags of shelled pecans that will be perfect and delicious for your holiday baking! The bar will be open and it'll be a fun afternoon for everyone. (Olaf will probably stop by to say hello as well!)
Frosty Fern gets its turn this week because, well, it is just so adorable. These lovely plants can be a little tricky however. They really need to be in a humid environment and most of our homes are not humid enough. Solve this issue by placing the fern on a tray filled with pebbles that you keep covered about half way up with water. Or place them in a terrarium where they'll stay warm and moist!
We now have fresh Fraser Fir Christmas trees ranging from 5 ft to a whopping 11 ft tall! Regardless of whether you have a small space or a large space, we have the perfect size tree for you. Every weekend in December, we will be offering free hot chocolate and cookies to enjoy while you shop. There may be other surprises as well (like Olaf)!!!
What better way to decorate your home in a natural way than with wreaths and garlands. We have wreaths in a variety of foliage: Fraser Fir, Boxwood, and a combination of both. Some of the Fraser Fir-Boxwood combos also have White Pine tips! Garlands are all Fraser Fir and simply beautiful. You can add beautiful bows to wreaths and garland for the perfect holiday look.
CORA is an organization that works tirelessly to feed those with food insecurity in Chatham County. They also provide a service called SNACK! that provides food for children in summer months who usually get free-reduced meals during the school year. You can help provide for these families in need by donating items to our Food Drive. Please donate items like canned fruits and vegetables, healthy pantry items, or paper products. Find a more detailed list of needs here. Bring your donations and we will match all of your donations and deliver the items on December 2. Please help us care for our community in this way!

Help us give back to the community by giving a gift to a child in need this holiday season. We are working with Chatham County's "Christmas Wishes" program in which they provide gifts to children in need. We will have a display in the Garden Center where you can select any number of "wishes" to grant. Please return the item/items unwrapped to FGS by Thursday, December 5th. All gifts will then be delivered to Chatham County DSS on Friday, December 6th where volunteers will wrap the gifts for foster families to pick up and put under their trees at home.
