First of all, I would just like to say: I am not a cat.

Over 48-hours later and that video of the lawyer inadvertently using a cat filter at a court hearing still makes me crack up EVERY SINGLE TIME.

My second hearty chuckle of the week came last night when I found one of my quotes in a blog post of career advice. I was listed as number #24. What makes it hilarious is that #22 is from Steve Jobs and #23 is by Albert Einstein. There is a total of 41 quotes. And the rest of the list ain't too shabby either! (JFK, Winston Churchill, Norman Vincent Peale, Babe Ruth, Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt to name a few - click here to see the whole list )

So just like the judge and lawyers on the video, or me being listed in the company of folks who are waaaaay out of my league, today's PGG reminds us to Just Go With It. And relish in the wacky and absurd - we all need to lighten-up and have as many collective laughs as possible!

I would also like to wish you Gong Xi Fa Zai/Happy Lunar New Year, which is always a special holiday to me, not only because I studied Mandarin in college (working at a Chinese restaurant one summer because of that!), but the inaugural event for The Women's Mosaic was a Chinese New Year Celebration twenty years ago as I talked about here. I've added even more photos on the TWM Facebook Page, so for those of you who were part of TWM (or curious about it) might want to take a stroll down memory lane there, and keep checking back as I add more photos from the super-early days. You can check out this week's Instagram post with a little flashback, too.

And of course this Sunday is Valentine's Day, so the PGG Video of the Week reminds you to cultivate love every day, regardless of your relationship status. If you'd like to treat yourself or someone you love to some supportive coaching with heart, I'm offering 14% off my services when you use the coupon code SELFLOVE. I'll also be presenting a Zoom talk on February 24th called Heart & Soul: The Key to Your Success in 2021 and Beyond - click here for all the details and to register.

Just Go With It
Originally published February 22, 2011

While walking down the street after a bizarre week of odd “coincidences” and uncanny timings, I happened to look up and notice the announcement board of a synagogue with this quote by feminist/activist/author Robin Morgan, “Only she who attempts the absurd can achieve the impossible.”

One definition of the word absurd is “inconsistent with reason or logic or common sense,” which means that any decisions or actions deemed as such perhaps come from a place that we can’t always understand, but know is from somewhere deep within us.

Our most popular presidents had a bit of that going on…George Washington’s advisors seriously questioned his determination to cross the frozen Delaware, and he intuitively knew how to present himself as a leader for this new country; Abraham Lincoln’s life is filled with examples of how he went against conventional wisdom and popular opinion. Both men defied the odds by listening to their own conscience, inner voice and moral compass, and because of that became the great men we honor today.

Part of maturing is learning how to trust your own gut despite any outside influences. While it can be helpful to get advice, when we are honest with ourselves, we are usually our own best counsel. Others might not know who we really are or may not have our best interests at heart. And I’m sure we can all remember times when we’ve dealt with the consequences of not heeding the wisdom of our gut.

My guess is that Adam Sandler trusts his intuition as to what his audience thinks is funny or not regardless of what the Hollywood suits might say, and from his start back in the SNL days, he expressed a unique kind of silly humor that had yet to be considered commercially viable. Well, we all know how that turned out!

When I meet with clients, often I am simply validating and confirming what they already know themselves but were too embarrassed, in denial, doubtful or repressed about to pursue or even admit.

If when a complete stranger in less than two hours, without you specifically divulging it, tells you that the ‘crazy’ idea you have, that thing you always wanted to do, the life that you always dreamed of, is exactly the direction you should be going in based on the dots I’ve connected, Just Go With It – it’s the green light you’ve been waiting for to produce that smash box office hit starring none other than YOU!
