Dear Guest

Well regardless of whatever the protracted Brexit process brings, rest assured Guernsey will remain the perfect staycation destination of Britain.

Just in case you wondered, the Bailiwick of Guernsey is a British Crown dependency and not a member of the European Union. Which means for our friends from the UK:

  • No lengthy passport control queues on arrival.
  • 1 UK Pound = 1 Guernsey Pound. Simple.
  • No funny money. No exchange rate. No commission. No calculator.
  • Heck!, we even speak English (with a bit of an accent, granted).

Some might even say England remains Guernsey's most cherished possession. See "1066 and All That" below.

In this Newsletter edition check out our upcoming stonking value Autumn, Winter, Festive and Tennerfest breaks from just £110 and enter our free reader's competition to win a super 4 night Guernsey Spring Break for two.

Read on and see you soon!

Le Friquet Hits Gold Again!

We recently received an anonymous stay from an (extremely nice) official Visit Guernsey hotel inspector. We are delighted to learn that Le Friquet Hotel has retained its 3 star Gold Hotel Award, Gold Restaurant Award and Breakfast Award plus picking up a few new accolades this year.

So my special thanks go to the crew at Le Friquet Hotel, The Lobster and Grill Restaurant and Eddie's Bar, who have all worked so hard to maintain the high standards expected.
1066 And All That

Every British school child knows the significance of 1066. That was the year Norman duke William “the Conqueror” invaded England and killed King Harold with an arrow.

Although the most obvious implication is clear - that William became king of England - the secondary outcome is less obvious. As the Norman duke, William was already ruler of Guernsey and the rest of the Channel Islands. Thus, it could be said, Guernsey’s side won and England lost. In the process, England was joined to the Channel Islands, rather than the other way around. That technically made the Channel Islands the senior partner in the union.

In Guernsey, the British monarch is known as the "Duke of Normandy", notwithstanding the fact that the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is a woman. The Islands owe allegiance to her in her role as their duke.

It is not unusual at formal occasions when the loyal toast is given to hear "The Queen" followed by "Our Duke".
Thank you Paul
Special Thanks and Good Luck Paul

After 33 years of loyal service Paul Roberts, our long-standing maintenance man, has decided to hang his tools up and retire, and well deserved too!

Paul worked between Le Friquet Hotel and our sister hotel La Barbarie as an integral part of the team across both locations and it's certain he played a role in contributing to the enjoyment of your stay with us.

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Paul, he will be missed. Thank you, for all your hard work and friendship over the years and happy retirement!
Happy Hour in Eddie's Bar
Eddie's Bar - Happy Hour!

Join us in Eddie's Bar or on the sun terrace between 5.00pm and 6.00pm daily where all draught beers (excluding Peroni), ciders, glasses of wine (175ml) and Prosecco are just £3.00.

For those who prefer a more elaborate preparation - and the possibility of a parasol, fruit and paper straws - the ominously billed "Cocktail of the Day" at a fiver a show is sure to impress.
