Phoenix non-profit checking in on vulnerable seniors amid the pandemic
The pandemic is leaving many seniors isolated as they try to stay home and stay safe. But one group is going out of their way to keep tabs on a group of especially-vulnerable older adults. It's part of Justa Center's Ambassadors of Care program. They check in on formerly-homeless seniors who have recently been placed into housing.

Homeless Valley veteran finally gets unemployment after long struggle
Justa Center Executive Director Wendy Johnson says the pandemic has only added to the misery of those who live at or below the poverty level. “We’ve had 180 people come to Justa Center in the last two months who have not been here ever before,” Johnson says. “Of them, 48% are first-time homeless. That’s what we’re gonna see an uptick in.”

Phoenix community comes together to help homeless veteran
A 55-year-old Army veteran is getting back on his feet because of the kindness of his fellow Phoenicians. "It's been a true blessing. I really appreciate all the efforts of everyone," said Miles Oliver. Back in August, Oliver found himself going through a tough time. Oliver had missed a rent payment, got evicted from his apartment, and had been living out of his car for several months.

With this need expected to increase alongside aging populations, some developers are looking to abandoned shopping mall sites for innovative opportunities.

Justa Center has ben selected as a charity beneficiary for the Birdies For Charity program at the 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open! Simply pledge one cent or more for every birdie that will be made by the PGA TOUR players at the tournament, and Justa Center will receive 100% of the collected pledges. Just Center member William, age 62, was gifted this new keyboard a few days ago and the look on his face while playing was priceless! We even had a sing-along of Bill Wither's classic hit Lean On Me. The live music was a lovely treat and a beautiful reminder of the unseen talents and passions so many of our members have, which we'll be highlighting all month, so be sure to follow our social media!
