EXPANDING HEALTH CARE ACCESS

Six States Participating in Medicaid and Corrections Policy Academy

Next week, policymakers from Alaska, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin will participate in the in-person Medicaid and Corrections Policy Academy, presented alongside the Center for Health Care Strategies and funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. Learn how these states are working to improve reentry outcomes for people involved in the justice system who have complex needs.

RESTORING VOTING RIGHTS

Supporting Reentry Through Voting Rights Restoration

With Election Day approaching, it’s crucial to highlight the importance of voting rights restoration in the reentry process. Empowering people returning from incarceration to vote strengthens their connection to the community and promotes civic engagement. The National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC) provides valuable resources and state-specific guidance on voting rights. Be sure to subscribe to the NRRC’s newsletter and visit the Voting Rights page to explore how you can support these efforts and enhance reentry outcomes.

REDUCING OVERDOSES, STRENGTHENING REENTRY

Implementing Evidence-Based Strategies to Reduce Overdose Risk During Reentry: A Primer for Reentry Professionals

People reentering the community from incarceration are at the highest risk of an overdose or death during the first 48 hours. A new guide from the CSG Justice Center and Addiction Policy Forum, supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, details five best practices that reentry professionals can use to mitigate this risk. These practices range from using medications to treat opioid use disorders to developing relapse prevention plans.
