WOMEN & JUSTICE

Folks in the middle just want more respect for and better recognition of women..." Read the rest of this recent article below!

Two Important Supporting Organizations
While this issue continues to be fraught among politicians, there is no shortage of groups throughout the US who are doing the good work to help immigrants. Please see two important organizations below:
-
The Center for Migration Studies (CMS) is a New York-based educational institute devoted to the study of international migration, to the promotion of understanding between immigrants and receiving communities, and to public policies that safeguard the dignity and rights of migrants, refugees, and newcomers. -
Las Americas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in El Paso, Texas providing free and low-cost legal services to immigrants and refugees in West Texas and New Mexico. DEATH PENALTY ABOLITION AND RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

A Year in the Life of a DP/RJ Member -- Reflection by Mary Beaudoin
Members of the MSJC Death Penalty Abolition and Restorative Justice (DP-RJ) issue team are involved in a wide variety of projects. As a team, we partner with several organizations, including Catholic Mobilizing Network (CMN), Death Penalty Action (DPA), and others. Individual team members also collaborate with abolition groups in their state and with groups involved in restorative justice at the local or national level. Through these collaborations, we bring Marianist values to a broader community...
Below is a list of some of the projects and activities in which our DP-RJ team -- as a group and as individuals -- has been involved during the past year. Consider how you might become involved in a future project to end the death penalty and promote restorative justice. Our team is looking for new members so reach out at info@marianistsjc.net if you’re interested in learning more! (Read whole list here...)

The "I" in LGBTQIA -- Reflection by Brad Leger
As we all learn more about the wonderful complexities of what it means to be human, particularly within the realms of gender identity and sexual orientation, so goes the discussion of the various forms of the acronyms which we use to identify people in this light and who should be included. For some people, even those who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community (a commonly used acronym - used to identify lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer individuals and all of the points of the spectrum under which we can fall), there can be confusion and misunderstanding. A case in point is one of the most glossed-over, misunderstood, and even omitted letters which is utilized within the title of this essay: the “I” within the acronym, which stands for “Intersex”. Ministry with Queer Youth Zoom Session -- Featuring Presentation from Team Member Dr. Ish Ruiz
When: Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 at 12:30 PM ET | 11:30 AM CT | 10:30 AM MT | 9:30 AM PT
What: In this online Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies in Religion Lavender Lunch, Dr. Ish Ruiz will illuminate how alarming statistics in recent years should compel Christian communities to minister to queer youth with special care. Given the polarization in our country over LGBTQ+ inclusion, the reported experience of queer youth’s upbringing, and the harmful rhetoric often promulgated by religious groups, it is important for Christian ministers to be well prepared to engage this risky ministry with confidence and a solid theological foundation. Ish will give an overview of what it means to "grow up queer" today, present a theological framework to understand ministry with queer youth, and offer practical advice for ministry. Find more details and the Zoom link below!
