Canadian analytics company opens first US lab at K-State Olathe, focus on safer pet food
 

Maxxam Analytics, a North American provider of food, environmental, industrial hygiene and DNA analytical testing services, has opened a 3,000-square foot analytical food testing laboratory at
K-State Olathe. The partnership with K-State Olathe has provided a gateway for Maxxam to establish its first U.S. food testing lab - one that is in the heart of the Animal Health Corridor. Part of K-State Olathe's mission is to help expand job growth and opportunities in the region through education, research and outreach.


Presidential Social is Oct. 2

K-State Olathe is hosting a Presidential Social with Richard Myers, university president, on Oct. 2. The social includes networking for Kansas City area alumni and remarks from President Myers about key strategies and initiatives for the university and K-State Olathe.

Faculty profile: Justin Kastner
 

Justin Kastner is an associate professor of food science and security at Kansas State University and co-director of the Frontier program. He divides his time between the Manhattan and Olathe campuses and specializes in the history of public health, international trade policy, cross-border cooperation, and multidisciplinary research and writing. He shares his love of teaching, learning and breakdancing.

  • Common Internal and External Parasites in Cats and Dogs That Just Might Gross You Out, Sept. 20 -- Susan Nelson, D.V.M. and clinical professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine, is talking about parasites and pets in a free lecture from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on
    Sept. 20. The lecture is part of the Careers and Cases in Veterinary Medicine Lectures. Registration will be posted on K-State Olathe's website in the near future. 
     
  • The Future Vision of FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges, Sept. 21 -- From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 21, learn how leaders in the Center for Veterinary Medicine plan to move forward under the new federal leadership. Two roundtable discussions with industry and Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine leaders will tackle the opportunities and challenges in the regulatory process for drug discovery and generic drugs. Register now.
  • Presidential Social, Oct. 2 -- K-State President Richard Meyers is coming to K-State Olathe to meet share updates about the university and key initiatives. The Presidential Social is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 at K-State Olathe, and will include hor d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Register now.

Paul Casady

Paul Casady joins K-State Olathe as the executive in residence professor of practice for animal health. He will use his 35 years of industry experience to elevate the university's animal health activities and visibility in the Kansas City area and across the U.S.

Around the campus
 

The technology support at K-State Olathe is award-winning. Eric Racki, IT support specialist (left), and Nate Sherman, IT manager, were honored with Colleague to Colleague Outstanding Technical Support Staff Awards on Aug. 24 at Johnson County Community College. The annual Colleague to Colleague Awards recognize outstanding service and innovation by Kansas and Missouri higher education employees in the areas of technical support, teaching, leadership in instructional technology and online course design.



Aug. 21 marked the start of the fall semester.
K-State Olathe welcomed 26 new students to our graduate programs. Many of these new students are enrolled in the three newest academic programs offered at K-State Olathe: school counseling, master of public health and the professional science master's program.


Students in the university's Masters of Agribusiness program, or MAB, Animal Health Cohort met at 
K-State Olathe for a week of in-person classes. Students and staff convene every August and October at K-State Olathe for a week of in-person classes as part of the 2 1/2-year distance program.
