College access is the mission of a new Kansas State University program launching this fall in Johnson, Wyandotte counties
  

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Shawnee Mission North High School, Kansas State University and Shawnee Mission School District officials will unveil a new college access program for low-income, first-generation college and underrepresented high school students from Wyandotte and Johnson counties. The program, Kansas State College Advising Corps, helps students enter and complete a higher education degree program. 
  
Upcoming event spotlights expanding region's workforce potential through STEM-based education, collaboration

On Sept. 13, K-State Olathe is bringing together industry and community leaders, employers, employees, educators and students in greater Kansas City to discuss fulfilling Kansas City's demand for professionals in the STEM fields.
Discover K-State in Kansas City

On Oct. 5, Kansas City area residents should plan to discover more about the many educational opportunities that Kansas State University has to offer. K-State Olathe will host an information session for the community that features the university's undergraduate, degree completion and graduate degree programs from all four of K-State's campuses -- Olathe, Manhattan, Polytechnic and Global. The event begins at 6 p.m. with browsing and formal presentations begin at 6:15 p.m.
Petfood Innovation Workshop runs Sept. 13-15 in Manhattan, Kansas

The Petfood Innovation Workshop and K-State Pet Food Experience is Sept. 13-15 at Kansas State University. The event is a joint industry-academic venture that promotes innovation, research and talent in pet food and pet treat manufacturing.

Deandra "Dee Dee" Cassone, associate professor of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering, recently published her second book with colleague Frank Tillman. "The Science of Common Sense: Best Practical Decision Science Methods" was named Book of the Month in the July 2016 issue of Industrial and Systems Engineering magazine.
 

During the week of Aug. 8, students enrolled in the Master of Agribusiness Animal Health Cohort met at K-State Olathe for the first on-campus session of 2016. Students and staff convene every August and October at K-State Olathe for a week of in-person classes as part of the 2 1/2-year distance program, which teaches in-demand business skills to workers in greater Kansas City's animal health and food industries.



K-State Olathe played an important role in the electoral season. Throughout July, the campus hosted 2,267 Johnson County election workers who attended a series of required training sessions in preparation for August's local election and the upcoming presidential election.   

Seven staff members from K-State Olathe were chosen to represent the campus at the 2016 James R. Coffman Leadership Institute. The institute ran Aug. 3-5 at the Rock Springs 4-H Center. During the three-day, in-residence institute, participants r efreshed and developed leadership skills through a series of activities, discussions and speaker panels.
