Her mother's side of the family has had a teacher in nearly every generation, while her father's side has had a preacher in nearly every generation. Dr. Collins is an associate professor of adult learning and leadership in Kansas State University's College of Education and the adult learning and leadership graduate program director for K-State Olathe and Fort Leavenworth.

• The First Year Teaching: Supporting a Successful Start, Jan. 31 -- Educators are invited to help teachers navigate their first year and celebrate the teaching profession at a free event hosted by Kansas State University's College of Education and K-State Olathe. The event is from 4-6 p.m. on Jan. 31. It provides school district leadership, instructional coaches and teachers with strategies and resources to help ensure a successful first year, and includes a viewing of a new teaching documentary, "A Walk in My Shoes -- The First 9 Months." Register now

New hire

On Dec. 6,  K-State Olathe hosted the second seminar in a series on regulatory affairs in animal health. Speakers addressed some of the regulatory challenges that come with new animal health technologies. Talks looked at the issue from the perspectives of companion animal care, pharmaceutical production, food animal production, federal regulation and more.
