K-State Olathe partners with AAIV, creates academic opportunities for graduate students
 

K-State Olathe is now the national headquarters of the American Association of Industry Veterinarians, or AAIV -- an organization comprised of veterinarians working for animal health companies. The agreement creates new academic opportunities for graduate students, such as using AAIV member companies for capstone projects, job shadowing and internships.

K-State Olathe answering KC industry demand for seminars on animal health regulatory affairs

On Sept. 21, K-State Olathe is hosting the first of four seminars about regulatory affairs in animal health for Kansas City area industry. It connects industry with leaders in the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

Changing workforce, effective leadership focus of upcoming professional development conference

Leading through Change is a professional development event that focuses on effective leadership in a changing, multigenerational workplace. The conference is Oct. 19-20 at K-State Olathe. 

Continuing education credit available to Kansas City area veterinarians

Veterinarians in Greater Kansas City can earn up to four hours of continuing education credits through a series of educational seminars with Kansas State University veterinarians.

Adult education program at university undergoes name change

The adult and continuing education program at Kansas State University has been renamed to the adult learning and leadership program. The name change better reflects the unique skills and education students receive in the program.

Faculty profile: Sara Gragg
 

Sara Gragg is an assistant professor of food science at Kansas State University Olathe and directs the campus' food science lab. She has made a career in using food safety as a means to improve and save lives.

  • Where is the Veterinary Industry Headed?, Aug. 9 -- From noon to 1:30 p.m. at K-State Olathe, Mike Dicks, director of the Veterinary Economics Division of the American Veterinary Medical Association, will share upcoming trends for the current economic state of the veterinary profession, where it is headed and what changes we may wish to make and why, as well as take questions from the group. Dicks' luncheon seminar is part of the professional development seminar series Animal Health Industry Insights. He is being hosted by Kansas State University's Master of Agribusiness program. The seminar is $25 and includes a lunch. Register now
  • Presidential Social, Oct. 2 -- K-State President Richard Meyers is coming to K-State Olathe to meet share updates about the university and key initiatives. The Presidential Social is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 at K-State Olathe, and will include hor d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Registration information will be announced in the near future.

Laura Loyacono

Laura Loyacono has joined Kansas State University's Olathe campus as the director of community and education engagement. She oversees strategic enrollment initiatives that increase the university's engagement with students and schools in Greater Kansas City.

K-State Olathe is proud to welcome the newest class of recruiters for the  Kansas State College Advising Corps. They will work with low-income and underrepresented students in Kansas City area high schools and help them become first-generation college students at a university that best fits their educational needs. The recruiters have spent the month of July at K-State Olathe receiving orientation and training from Bernard Franklin, assistant vice president for student life at Kansas State University, and Meaghan Higgins, the KSCAC program director.

Entrepreneurs who received funding from Digital Sandbox KC for their startup ventures recently met with fellow recipients and m embers of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce at K-State Olathe. The  entrepreneurs discussed their projects with colleagues, many of whom shared ideas and advice, toured K-State Olathe and met with several of the campus' faculty and directors. Entrepreneurs who receive funding from Digital Sandbox now also have access to K-State Olathe resources for collaboration. On July 21, Taylor Terry, a master's student in food, nutrition, dietetics and health, presented her thesis defense, "Food Handling Behaviors of Consumers When Grilling Poultry." Her research looked at what food safety practices people did well and failed at when grilling poultry at home; how grillers knew when the poultry was properly cooked; and how home cooks receive food safety information.
