Urban Food Systems Symposium draws more than 150 academics and urban food systems experts

More than 150 researchers and urban food systems experts shared their studies, ideas, information and other food for thought about the current and future state of food production and food security in large cities during the 2016 Urban Food Systems Symposium.

Scholarship program redesigned to be more beneficial to students

Under K-State Olathe's redesigned scholarship program, students apply once for a scholarship and the award is renewed annually throughout the entirety of the student's degree track.

Debbie Kirchhoff directing strategic efforts at K-State Olathe

Debbie Kirchhoff joined K-State Olathe in May to oversee community engagement and outreach in the Greater Kansas City region. She also is identifying opportunities for new initiatives that align with the strengths of Kansas State University.

Royce Ann Collins receives graduate teaching award

Royce Ann Collins, associate professor in educational leadership, was recently recognized with the Michael C. Holen Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement by College of Education faculty in graduate instruction.

Introductory PKPD Concepts and Applications, Oct. 24-25 -- K-State Olathe is hosting a pharmacokinectic and pharmacodynamic, or PKPD, workshop Oct. 24-25. It explores how quantitative in silico models can improve pharmacokinectic and pharmacodynamic data analyses. Register or get more information.

New hire

In July, Justin Kastner, associate professor of food safety and security at Kansas State University, is joining K-State Olathe as a part-time faculty member. He will instruct the introductory course for the Professional Science Master's in Applied Science and Technology degree program.

Kastner specializes in multidisciplinary scholarship.

Around the campus

Bill Snyder, head football coach at K-State, met with fans at the Taste of K-State.

It was the perfect mix of Wildcat pride, live music and some of Kansas City's finest food at the Taste of K-State event on June 9. The event, hosted by the Kansas City Catbackers, brought
K-State fans together with K-State's head coaches and athletics staff. Bill Snyder, head football coach, was joined by Bruce Weber, head men's basketball coach; Jeff Mittie, head women's basketball coach; and Mike Dibbini, head women's soccer coach.

Thirty-three high school juniors and seniors participated in K-State Olathe's "One Health Summer Online Course 2016." The free, noncredit, three-week course introduced students interested in the biosciences to the One Health concept, related careers and online learning. One Health is a multidisciplinary health approach in which human health, animal health and the environment are linked and affect each other.
