- Community Practice, Nov. 30 -- Dr. Neala Boyer, clinical assistant professor at Kansas State University, is presenting the lecture "Community Practice" from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 at K-State Olathe. The lecture is part of the College of Veterinary Medicine's Careers and Cases in Veterinary Medicine Lectures. Boyer provides routine wellness and preventative health, nutrition and weight management consultation for animals.

- Healthy Cooking for Diabetes, Dec. 6 -- Healthy Cooking for Diabetes is a 3-hour education and cooking class for people with Type 2 diabetes. The class pairs medical science with hands-on learning and is taught by experts in nutrition, the culinary arts and education. Participants learn how to manage their Type 2 diabetes through nutrition and healthy, tasty recipes. The class is from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 6 at K-State Olathe.

Around the campus
On Nov. 15, 35 students from the Medical Professionals Academy in the Olathe Public Schools' 21st Century Academies program spent their day at K-State Olathe to participate in a series of hands-on educational activities. Students practiced their micro-pipetting skills; used the test kitchen for a taste and sensory cooking project; toured the campus' labs; and visited with researchers about their work and how they became involved in science.

Stephen Higgs, director of Kansas State University's Biosecurity Research Institute, delivered a keynote address about the Zika virus' origins and spread. He spoke to industry leaders, researchers and community members at Kansas City One Health Day. The event spotlighted and emphasized the importance of the science that connects animal, human and environmental health.

K-State Olathe hosted the Olathe Chamber of Commerce's October Chamber Coffee. More than 100 members met on campus to network, enjoy the comradery and test their luck in several giveaways.

Halloween was frightful as K-State Olathe hosted the children of faculty and staff members. They came dressed as little Stormtroopers, Pokemon and fairy princesses for an afternoon of trick-or-treating. They picked up candy and homemade treats from offices, saw spooky science experiments and decorated devilishly delicious sugar cookies in the test kitchen.
